Http proxy not running - restarted

Hi We have the Sophos UTM 9, model ASG220, Firmware version: 9.107-33.  

Lately I have had some problems the “Http proxy not running – restarted” have been causing the user ability to enter the big WWW 

I don’t have any Parent Proxy No Generic Proxy under Network Protection, 
or socks proxy 
or ident reverse proxy.  
Or proxy profiles 

Why are I getting this then? Causing the Sophos to go in a hang – and the users can’t access www in between a couple of minutes.

    The quick answers are:

    The kernal.log shows it is running out of memory.  The system automatically kills the largest thing in memory, which is the http proxy.  That does not indicate a problem in the proxy, it just means its the largest thing.

    1 GB is in practical terms not enough unless you have almost all features off.  Changing to 4 GB will likely solve all your problems.

    You have no coredumps in 2014, all those are old (and therefore likely due to bugs fixed long ago).

    I don't know about the fallback.log...  If it is logging that all the time there could be an error somewhere.   If it is still there after upgrade RAM, I would contact Sophos support.

    That is by far the quickest and most helpful response I have gotten from anyone about my Astaro220 >> Sophos 220 v9 box for three years.

    Can I ask a natural extension? Would changing the standard 160GB HDD to a SSD allow the box to swap fast enough ( after the memory is upgraded to 4GB ) to further extended the life of the box? - The box is a lightly loaded Astaro220v4 with current v9.

    4 Gb will do the work .
    It's always good to use SSD but you don't need to.

    Officially the 220 rev 4 is "supported but not recommended" for v9.x - mostly likely due to the 1GB of ram.  The rev5 has 2GB.

    The most recent hardware is SSD, but its not necessary and I doubt would make much of a difference on a "lightly loaded" box.  If you were going to go that far I would replace the whole thing.  Or rather than trying to "further extend the life" just upgrade ram now and then the whole box later.

    To be clear, Michael, are you saying that Sophos now allows memory upgrades in the r4 units?  In the past, opening the device would void the warranty.

    Oh sorry, I'm not saying that.  I really have no idea regarding warranty, I'm a techie.  TJ had posted that he was thinking of upgrading memory on the box.

    Yes, it could be a problem.  TJ, you also just consider contacting your reseller about getting new hardware - the SG series is just out so you would be upgrading to the absolute latest and therefore be the most future-proof.
