How to Block Web Access at Night (10pm to 7am)

HI, using Sophos UTM 9 at home, single Lan, dual Wan, several PC's and smart phones are attached.

Wanting to block all access/all traffic to every device on my network between the hours of 10pm and 7am, except for my server (has it's own Network Definition and assigned IP of 192.168.1.2)

So my kids are not up all night.

Just hoping someone could point me in the direction of the easiest method to achieve this.

Even better would be if i can set individual (time) rules per device based on IP.

    Hi, you can setup time-based rules or profiles, but for exact instructions, you need to let us know if you are using the http proxy or not (web protection).

    You can create a Profile with a Filter Assignment for 10AM-7PM that allows what you want.  Use the "Default blocking action" as the 'Fallback action'.

    Sorry to inform you, but in version 9, there is a bug where time definitions are not being enforced by the firewall.  You'd better use version 8 if you want time definitions to work.  No ETA has been given or bug tracking number yet.

    There is a comment that there is a Mantis ID to fix this, 27685.  Looks like in version 9.2.  Better stay on 8.x for awhile.

    That shouldn't affect Web Filtering Profiles. The issue there is with conntrack and firewall rules changing from allowing traffic to dropping it, not with Time Events.

    That said, there is a similar phenomenon with httpproxy that would, for example, let a child start a movie streaming before 10pm and watch it through to the conclusion - that's always been like that well before V8.

    This only applies to Web Filtering correct? There is no way to apply this to application controls is there? 

    I would like to block things like Xbox live, etc during bedtime hours and during "home work" hours, while still allowing my kids access to the internet for school work.

    Although you can't do it with Application Control, you can do it with Firewall rules.

    I can also reinvent the wheel. [:D]

    Part of the reason I was going down the path of Sophos was to try and get away from all the FW rules like that I had in place with Untangle. I'm honestly thinking about switching to a Cisco ISA at this point. Over all I'm becoming highly disappointed in all the limits of this product - which is a shame I was really looking forward to implementing it at home.
