PPTP disconnect without reason

Does someone has seen the next problem?
Windows 2000 workstation. Working in a test environment local 100 mb lan. Connection using pptp from this windows worksation to an astaro 4 (uptodate) demo licenced firewall. When i am working in the webadmin module using pptp the connection is dropped sometimes within a few minutest without any reason. It almost like some sort of nagging because of a demo licence?? ...

    The 60 sec PPTP fix has been in for a few days now. Seems OK. I've had no disconnects since.

    Hello,

    I changed the parameters you talked about.
    It solved the problem for some users, but there are still users that are disconnected after 10 echo requests.
    One example: a new installed Dell laptop D400 with no firewall and Anti virus up2date can connect to the PPTP server but is disconnected after 2 or 3 minutes.


    Astaro box is V4.017.
    Do you have another trick ?

    If increasing the timeout parameters to make the ASL VPN hosting more resilient works for some of the users, then, in theory, it should work for all.

    Try increasing the parameters a bit more, and also check out the machines that are still having problems. They may have faulty ethernet cards that are dropping packets.

    I have been running my setup for many months now, and it works fine for both remote and Wi-Fi based VPN access.

    Same problem of Olivier_RAFAEL: for some customer it works, for some other pptp connection drop after very few minutes.
    And if I set a more long timeout the connection is not dropped but it seems freezed (I can ping the ip address assigned to me from the pptp server but can not ping firewall ip address).

    We have noticed that a PPTP VPN connection behaves differently depending on the web client we were using to access the web interface.
    With Safari on a Mac as well as with Internet Explorer on Windows 2000, we've had reproducable drops of the connection when accessing certain pages. Interestingly with Firefox on a Mac, this would not happen.

    Furthermore stability improved when we switched from client based VPN (VPN client included in Mac OS X) to a router based VPN client (LAN-to-LAN functionality in a Draytek Vigor router).

    Your mileage may vary though...

    My initial connection drop problem last year happened when I used Internet Explorer to browse the ASL Webadmin interface via a PPTP VPN tunnel. My modified timeout settings are still in place, but these days I primarily use Firefox as my browser. My VPN connections to my ASL v4 box remain stable.
