Guide to connect PS3

I am sure there are posts on this but the one I read on it really was too advanced for me -- My question is for the PS3. I read a few threads on it and they just dont make sense ? ie pf -- ps3--any-any -- makes not sense to me, is there a better example perhaps explaining how to open up my ports to a ps3 that clearly shows what a pf is or how to set up a masq. I am a total newb to Astaro and see that its way more advanced than other firewalls yet more secure. if you can perhaps direct me I would really love to learn but as I said when i try to add this its always telling me theres a host with that name.

    JML:  If you are a licensed customer, call in to Astaro Support and let them know your issue with PS3.  That way they'll know 100% that there's an issue which needs looking into.  Just posting here on a user-to-user forum, there's only a small chance that someone from Astaro will happen to notice this thread.


    My local Astaro rep already has a ticket in for other issues. We will just add this to the list. Thanks.

    I've got it working now, with ASG 8.102. In my case, the problem was that PSN login requires Jabber, and I had Jabber blocked. I don't know if that's a new PSN requirement, or if something has changed between 8.102 and previous ASG versions. (I just upgraded from ASG 7 to 8.102, so I hadn't tried PSN with previous v8 versions.)

    The detailed instructions posted by ChrisW28 in this thread are good, but there's one more step you have to do.

    In your Astaro Gateway, go to Web Security, then to IM/P2P, and click the IM tab. If IM Control Status is Enabled, then make sure that "Google Talk/Jabber" is set to "Do not block".

    Alternatively, you can block it here, but then you need to click the Exceptions tab and add an exception for your PS3 console(s) for Google Talk/Jabber, or you can click the Advanced tab and add your console(s) to the control skip-list.

    As soon as I stopped blocking Jabber to the PS3 consoles, I was able to log into the PSN with no problems, and I now get a NAT Type of 2.

    I just recently reinstalled astaro and i had to do this to get my ps3 online. It worked amazingly.. THANK YOU!!!! 

    Quick Question though, How do you guys figure this stuff out. Google? calling Sony? just curious. I thought I knew about networking.. Apparently there's a lot more I need to learn. I have been doing this stuff for years though..

    PS3_1 should be TCP/UDP in order for netflix to work


    I done that and netflix still does not work on my ps3. I will continue searching the forums for a solution. I am using the latest ASG version and the latest PS3 version. I can pull up the movies and browse them just fine but when i try to stream them netflix just says "were having trouble playing this title right now. Please try again later or select a different title."  Doesn't matter which movie I select it still says that. I can stream just fine on any of my computers. Just on ps3 it doesn't work. Any Ideas?

    OK guys if you have done everything before to get connected to psn and it worked great. but if you were still having trouble with streaming netflix i got it to work for me by adding the ps3 to the skip transparent mode. go to web security>advance and in the transparent mode skiplist put your ps3 in there and bam! As soon as I done that and tried to scream a movie on netflix via ps3 it started working. While I was streaming I took my ps3 out of the skiplist and my streaming stopped.

    I was able to get my PS3 with netflix working by following all the suggestions posted both here and in this thread:  PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Netflix with HTTP Proxy.

    To answer your question on how we "figure things out" with Astaro...  

    To be honest, 90% of the time I don't.  I come here and search or use Google to see if someone else has already experienced the same issue and solved it.  Why pour time and energy into a problem someone else has already tracked down ans solved.

    For the ones that I CAN'T find a published solution for... The log files are your friends.  A great way to understand what is going on is to watch the live log files (especially the packet filter and content filter) while you attempt to access the website or service that is failing.  Usually you will see in the log the IP address(es) and port(s) that are being blocked - make note of them and create appropriate rules.

    Hey there!

    If some of you get an error (80029563) when PS3 is connected to an Astaro-protected network and downloading game-updates try following:

    In addition to this tutorial i did the following:

    Web Security -> Webfilter -> Advanced

    Then add your PS3-Host to the List of Source-Net/Host-Exceptions for transparent-mode.

    After i applied that, update-downloads worked like a charm!

    I fallowed the tutorial and everything works great except NETFLIX....
    It logs in just fine, i browse for a movie, find it, watch it for 10 minutes and boom it fails. It starts the loading bar gets about 30% way done and stops... after i get the fallowing error. 80710102 please help.... [:(]
