Speedtest.net false reportings

I realize this is an older thread, but thought I'd pitch in my experience. I'm running an Atom D2550. With IPS, web filtering, AV on ... I'm getting 110+ mbps down on speedtest.net and testmy.net.

I was getting the same speeds with pfsense on the same hardware, with almost all snort rules turned on and squid http proxy filtering. And I am not maxing out the core. I think it will handle up to 150 mbps. 

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

that is a newer atom and yes they are quite good.  Just like their haswell bigger siblings these atoms are more core series than atoms...[:)]

i3 certainly has it's place, and is a good CPU. However, from that same link you posted: Atom has 5.5x lower power consumption overall: 8.13W vs 44.69W. @ $0.135/kw*h that's savings of $42 per year for a home user. Won't break the bank, but still some leftover change for an upgrade or two [:)].

And of course you can do a completely silent setup with SSD and no fan on Atom. Difficult to do that with i3 (if at all possible), as it's only rated to 66C or so. 

Atom has it's advantages, just designed for a different purpose. But sure, if price was the same for both setups and electricity was free, I'd go i3 any day of the week.

that 42 per year is cheap insurance against being one of the many atom users who wish they would have built an i3 based system in the first place..[:)]
