Traffic Shaper on outgoing emails?

hi forum,

ASG220 with exchange 2003 behind. mail security activated - everything is fine, except when a newsletter is send out. the mails are in the SMTP spooler on the ASG and delivery is in process - this cuts down the complete internet traffic, meaning that even opening a website is not possible anymore. 
the uplink is on it's limit (512kbit/sec)

is there a possibility to shape down the traffic, e.g. that outgoing mails from the ASG must not take more than 256kbit/sec, so that surfing is still possible while mails are delivered?

if so (and i think there should be something like that) it would be great if someone gives my guidance.

    I'm probably not using the correct port.  In the bandwidth monitor I get this:

    That looks right.  Why don't you think things are working?  William's right that limiting also works.  If you want to prove that to yourself, use the Email Messaging group instead of SMTP to test (and don't forget to put the limit back on[;)]).

    I tested with the smtp group and a 15MB message that I sent out to a different email account arrived within 2-3 minutes.  That's not possible with a 128kbps limit. 
    I did however not use the standard email messaging group but created my own group outgoing email messanging (with destination and source swapped - see my first post).  Isn't this correct?

    Edit: I added the standard email messaging group and my mail still arrives within 3 minutes.

    When a rule doesn't work, it's because the traffic selector is off or the rule is on the wrong interface.  Your configuration seems to be correct, so I wonder if the test might not be working as you perceive it???
