Gateway Encryption between ASG and Outlook 2010

Hello everyone,

I'm back on the encryption problem.

I spent the last 2 days doing tests and research. This is what we found out:

The (s/mime) encryption in general is pretty nifty and works in most cases. You can import internal user certificates and use those for encryption and you can import the external user's public key or have it automatically removed from a signed email and checked by the ASG.

This works if the partner that sends emails to the asg (or an email server/exchange behind it) uses Outlook 2003, 2007 or Thunderbird.

However it does NOT work if the user is using Outlook 2010 to encrypt the mails. They will be encrypted, but astaro is not decrypting them. Everything else is the same. ALl the same certificates and settings. If I just sign the emails with Outlook 2010 the ASG is able to check and remove that certificate. Just encryption doesn't work.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be about? Maybe even a bug?

    Chris, once the Astaro captures the cert from one email, can it then decrypt subsequent emails from Outlook 2010?  Have you used the Outlook 2010 encryption successfullywith anything other than another Outlook 2010 client?

    No, it does capture the cert, but no following E-Mails get decryted. I did exactly the same with Outlook 2003, 2007 and Thunderbird (from 3 different PCs) and they worked. Just 2010 didn't work on either PC.

    I have encrypted and decrypted messages successfully between different Outlook versions and 2010, yes (I think I might not have tried between Outlook 2010 and Thunderbird)

    Even though this is certainly an "undocument feature" introduced by our friends at Microsoft, this is an issue that Astaro should treat as a bug it needs to fix.

    I just hope this only affects V8, and that there's a resolution before I have a client on V8 with Outlook 2010!

    OK, so this is a little more urgent.  I hope you've submitted a bug report / support request via MyAstaro so that this information gets to the developers.

    Well I passed this on to my reseller - as I don't have access to astaro support directly. Actually I worked on the problem with them - and they will charge me for it as well :-( They said they would pass it on but I have no control over that and I felt they would not be treating it very seriously. If this is really an astaro issue I hope they will work something out.
    There was an open case for that before but I didn't know that it only affected Outlook 2010 at the time it was opened.

    We'll see.

    Just to clarify this: Not my reseller is the one that I feet not to treat this seriously but I feel kind of let down by astro support itself!

    I am using outlook 2010 and encryption/decryption works for me with no issues,(sending and receiving)

    So you are encrypting with outlook 2010 and decrypting with astaro and have no issues? Really?!

    If that really works I would love some testing, yes!
