the problematic mail wasn't in that folder, it was in /var/storage/chroot-smtp/spool/output/0/input isn't that the output one?
anyway, i deleted the offending file there and voila!, no more useless upload traffic
Astaro has moved a few things around to make it easier for themselves. I am glad you found the right directory. Most of the time the builtin exim commands fix problems like this but astaro doesn't allow that either.
[:S]I still don't understand why these mails didn't show up in mail manager.
