Bounced SMTP mail

V7.305 SMTP relay (no exchange server) Not using the user portal as prefetch has caused problems in the past.

No sure if this is related to another trouble ticket I have open with support or not (SMTP not filtering expressions).

Ok got that out of the way.
The mail manager is showing a few bounced emails.
The message is 553 sorry, your envelope recipient domain must exist (#5.7.1)

Which tells me that I have a bad address.

The problem I have is I never got a notification (non-delivery email) back.
Should I have gotten one? I do if I send an email not using Astaro.

  • As you describe it, you do need the entry in 'Upstream Hosts'.  The classic reason is the one you describe where port 25 traffic (SMTP) is blocked except for trusted smarthosts.
