free private license for appliance

Hi, I'm a beginner!
For private learning purposes I bought  me a "Astaro UTM 220 Appliance" 
and wanted to activate with the free "UTM Essential Firewall Editition license",
that I got from sophos by mail!

The free license don't work and I get the following message, 
when I try to load the license file:
"Cannot use ASG software license on ASG22x device"


-what license do I need resp. exist there a free license for this appliance?
-do I have to sell the hardware and learning is better with a vm-based appliance?
-has someone a few tips for me?

    for further information, my appliance came UTM 9.2 preinstalled when I bought it
    and I did not upgrade

    version        9.201025
    install image 9.201-25.1


    shell login ist solved:
    I solved my login problem by resetting appliance to factory default!
    At my first login on the linux shell, i was promted to set the "root pwd"

    license problem still exist!
    I was trying both tricks:

    1. i renamed the "/etc/asg" file to "asg_old" but i wasn't able to install 
    license 
    -> error: "The currently installed license for this product has expired 
    in order to continue using WebAdmin, please upload a valid license"

    2. I went to edit the "/etc/init.d/utm-lcd" and after that i renamed
    the file /etc/asg to /etc/asx, but won't work!
    I also verified, that my changes in vi editor was successful and in renaming /etc/asg file to /etc/asx

    In both cases I also restarted the appliance!

    Please show the details from the license text file.  Edit out the License ID and String

    So what to do now! Maybe flash newest OS v9.3 and then try again…?
