New Home-based UTM build

Hey guys/gals, I'd like to build a home UTM to support my 60D/4U connection. I'd like to have all services, most importantly IDS/IPS and Gateway AV enabled.

I'm curious to see what has or has not worked for you guys and if you could give me a few suggestions for possible builds that would support my needs.
I've read through the hardware requirements, but I want to be sure that I'm getting the most bang for my buck when purchasing equipment.

    I did not think even the consumer SSDs were nearly as susceptible as previously thought.  I know the enterprise drives (SLC?) are better, but I was thinking the consumer SSDs are still thought to outlast most mechanical drives at this point.  I definitely could be wrong...wouldn't be the first|last time.


    i've seen one test that is trying to run ssd's until they die and so far they are as durable as hdd...BUT at a significantly higher cost.  An ssd is going to have little tangible benefits unless you are running large reports on hundreds of users.  It's your money but i would just use a good 7200 rpm spinning rust drive.

    At least for my usage, though, a 120GB SSD ($80 or so, depending on brand and sales) would be about 60GB more than I need.  I know what you are saying, though, but I would sure like to get away from spinning drives.

    ssd's have their uses...hdd's aren't going away for a long time.  many times when an hdd fails you cna usually resurrect it..when an ssd dies it's dead. Most ssd's that die in a high small write environment are controller failures not flash failures.
