UTM 9.3 on XenServer and Tools are not installed?

did you manage to get xentools to ver 6.5?

just loaded my utm onto a different box, and the xentools still shown 6.5.

it is quite simple [:)] You just have to install the right version. I assume you are trying to install the 32bit version? Try the 64bit version!

I've been trying to get this to work. I eventually rebuilt my XenServer box with vsn 6.2 instead of 6.5 and Sophos 64bit worked fine. Then I upgraded XenServer to 6.5 As soon as I did that Sophos started behaving badly again with poor to non-existent connectivity on my cable internet. I guess the one last thing to try is to have another go at upgrading XenTools, but I have little confidence it will work give the number of things I've tried. My setup must somehow be different to others who've had success. So I'll probably go back to vmWare ESXi.

BTW even Sophos don't recommend running it on XenServer 6.5. I contacted their support and they pointed me to https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/119230.aspx which lists "Citrix XenServer 6.0 Enterprise" as a "supported virtualization platform".

Hi there, thanks again for your continued help. The XenServer is an HP Elite 8200 Core i5 3.10GHz with 8GB RAM. There are 3 NICs, all gigabit - 1 built into the motherboard and also an HP dual NIC PCI card. The internet connection is to one of those dual NICs.

At the moment there is only 1 other VM on the machine which is a XenOrchestra VM (web interface to manage VMs, like XenCenter).

The internet connection is cable internet capped at 30Mbps with upspeed of approx 1.8Mbps.

It's all kinda odd that it was working on XenServer 6.2 but not 6.5. I think it must be related to XenTools so I'll have another go at getting XenTools 6.5 installed this weekend.

Curious, 

My system is a i3 3Ghz 16G memory, with realtek nics. UTM9 is allocated 2vCpu's and 2G of memory, internet is 20M/1M adsl

Usually five users on it, and apart from UTM9 reporting the uplink is down, when it isn't, no real problems.

Cant comment on 6.2 as I only started on 6.5.

I have just put SP1 on the server , no problems so far, so I can only assume its down to tweaking the system.

You could try VMing pfSense and see if the throughput improves.

Re XenTools, not so sure as there was no difference when I was on 5.6, just that the VM monitoring was useless.

OK, I think I've made some progress so Aimee thankyou very much! This is what I did:

[FONT="Courier New"]# rpm --force -i xe-guest-utilities-xenstore-6.5.0-1393.x86_64.rpm
# rpm --force -i xe-guest-utilities-6.5.0-1393.x86_64.rpm
/sbin/insserv: No such file or directory[/FONT]

The /sbin/insserv error didn't seem to matter. Even before rebooting the virtualisation state was showing as "Optimized (version 6.5 installed)" but I rebooted anyway.

I think where I was going wrong before may have been I was removing the old XenTools packages and then installing the new ones. Using --force may have been the key here.

Also, I've noticed that Sophos on XenServer 6.5 is more picky about the amount of RAM it requires. I had been running it with 1GB before which was just fine on ESXi and XenServer 6.2, but it looks like it may cause problems if it doesn't have at least 2GB on XenServer 6.5.
