Hi, I'm also checking some alternatives in order to upgrade my old hardware.

I'm using a Zotac Intel Celeron SU2300 1.2GHz Dual-Core IONITX-P-E ZOTAC ION-ITX P Series [IONITX-P-E] together with a Dual NIC Realtek based PCIe card Exsys EX-6072 PCIe Dual Netzwerk-Karte mit 2 x 1Gigabit-EX-6072

It has Windows installed on it, and UTM is running inside VMware Workstation. The Realtek NIC's are used (bridged) with the VM, and the Onboard NIC is for all the custom server software running outside of the VM. The UTM NAT'ting both NIC's, so one is outside of the LAN, going towards the Cable Modem (which is a gateway, aka a NAT-router by itself).

ISP-wise I've got 50 down and 2.5 up. I just did a test with my Nexus 5: when it runs through the UTM I get 17 mbit/s, without the UTM I get 21 mbit/s. The 21 mbit/s is just to indicate that WiFi is limiting the connection at that speed, so the 17 mbit/s are a limitation of the UTM.

I'm running it this way for about 4 years now.

I want to get rid of the UTM on the server's VM and put in on bare metal, mostly to free up the server, and these new boards are pretty interesting.

I'm thinking of a Q1900DC-ITX ASRock > Q1900DC-ITX but the dual nic stuff on the Gigabyte looks interesting and quad core might be a bit oversized for a UTM.

QC is oversized for your wan size.  Baremetal isn't the problem your old hardware was simply too weak bare metal or not.  I would put this into a vm.  only give it two vcpus then you won't hit the QC problem that still crops up from time to time.  If you are using vmware put as much ghz as you want to those two vcpus..[[:)]]  If you are using hyper-v set the vcpu percentages to min 50 max 100% for those two vcpus.  Using a vm allows you to get around the QC single thread issue i've talked about extensively on here..[[:)]]

Intel PRO/1000 MT Server Adapter, 2x 1000Base-T, PCI-X 133MHz, low profile (PWLA8492MT) with Intel 82546EB chipset.

That specific one I'd stay away from as it's PCI-X, not PCIe (big difference) so won't work on newer boards.

VMWare Workstation is not going to perform very well (ESXi or HyperV would be much better); also you shouldn't be using Realtek NICs if you want good performance.

Hey everybody, can someone tell me how to config BIOS to get installation (UTM9) finished on my GA-J1900N-D3V? I'm getting an error on the hardware at the end of the hardware check… :/ But you guys are running that thing … so?

You have the ISO that is meant to be used only with Sophos Hardware appliances.  You want the asg ISO, not the ssi ISO.
