Hardware for home firewall

Hello everyone
I have one virtualized UTM running at my current home but I am also planning to have one on a second location I live

Any suggestions for check hardware that does the job?

It should be low energy, 3 NiCs (two would work too using VLAN), silent (WAF required [;)] ) and of course support activation off all UTM features (+ future new features), so not too slow.

Looking forward to hearing what you guys use at home

    Hi, running 'top' on the console/ssh shell while doing a speed test, and checking for high User, System, or Wait CPU usage is a good check to see if your CPU is overloaded.

    My old Atom maxes out at ~16mbps on http.

    Hi,

    My old Sophos box died recently, so I took the opportunity to upgrade the old 6380 cpu to a Rangely C2558 (supermicro flavor), but having some issues which I'm not sure if they are software or hardware compatibility related.  I had to use the latest 9.2 iso to perform the install to recognize the hardware (quad Intel GbE i354) and seems to work considering I can access webadmin.  

    However, I can't get the external/internal LAN's to ping.  Initially, I restored the config from the old box, but that utilized bridging and I thought that might be the issue.  Even in a basic config, one NIC assigned to the external LAN with static ip is not able to ping.  Any any rules and gateway visible settings have been configured, but still nothing.

    NIC LED's work as and when the interface is configured, but no ping.  Webadmin NIC is fine (also pingable), but I can't get any of the other three NIC's to play ball!

    Any thoughts?

    Hi, check the ICMP settings tab under Network Protection->Firewall

    Hi Barry,

    All options are set for the firewall to respond to pings.

    I've tried setting the external WAN to DHCP and connecting it to the internal LAN switch, but it won't even obtain an IP address....strange.

    It can't be hardware, otherwise why does my webadmin port work?

    Hi,

    It would be best if you open a new thread...

    First try doing a 'factory reset' or a fresh install without importing your backup, and see if you can get that running.
