Swap File Excessive

I just got a Daily Report and checked it and noticed the Swap File average was 49%, yet the average for the physical memory was only 56%.  The Swap should not be that high.  The unit is running 9.101-12.

    Caprocha, it's supposed to be fixed.  Are you on 9.104or5?

    I'm using firmware 9.100-16 on an ASG525 cluster, and the swap usage started creeping up to 100% on August 18th. It's now remaining at 100%. 1GB is the default allocated to swap, but I attempted to increase it to 4GB per the suggestion in KB 119721, but there's no mkswap command available in the shell... So, I'm waiting on a call back from Sophos tech support for some advice. Do I make a change, or do I reboot the cluster? (about 1,000 users, so I'll have to do it overnight!)

    Why are you using 9.100-16 ?
    Please update to 9.105-9 , last update.
    Swap looks lots better in this ver.
    I am also ruining clusters of 525 ,I had this issue also .
    Now in 9.105-9 it looks lots better.

    I have a client with 2 UTM220's and one the swap is sitting at like 15% avg and the other 30%.  Basically the same load and features.  

    I originally opened a case for the one with the higher average because it constantly crept up to almost 60%.  Not sure what is up.  Both are running the latest firmware.

    Gary, you wouldn't need to reboot all of the machines simultaneously.  Just one-at-a-time, waiting for the rebooted unit to show ACTIVE again in WebAdmin before rebooting the next one.  I would do that immediately and then schedule an Up2Date to 9.105-9 during off-hours as recommended by Gilipeled.

    Currently running 9.105-9, home licence.
    Swap currently approximately 29% growing about 2% per day. Another unit it is growing about 0.5 per day.

    My vm is holding at 36% with 3 gigs of ram here at my house.  ram usage is 63% with 1.1 gigs in cache.  Looks like the high swap usage philosophy still reigns in sophos land..[:)]

    Hi ?

    The swap issue is still not fixed.
    The main cause is SNORT, and till Sophos will release the SNORT optimization or even totally redesign it it will continue.
    I don't know when it will happen , in 9.105-9 it looks a bit better but still far from normal.
    I really hope Sophos will do something soon , there are lots of systems that suffers from this issue and some gust totally die because if it each few days .

    I'm not having crashing problems..however the biggest ram hog i'm seeing isn;'t snort at all but the http proxy(which has been a problem since sophos switched to their in house one).  9 percent ram to 30% snort vs http.  Still no excuse when 1,1 gigs is in file cache..[:)]
