HTTP Proxy is running on more than 100% CPU since 9.101

Gentlemen,

with version 9.101, we had several reports from customers that the HTTP Proxy is running under heavy load. We could identify the issue and track it internally under:

26192: Since 9.101 http proxy is running on more than 100% cpu load


If you experience that behaviour, please contact our support teams refering to that post. They will give you a patch for the issue.

The official fix is scheduled for 9.102, planned for end of June.

    awesome, I just spent a ton of money getting a new 320 from the 220 (had a 320 before). My 3 cases and an RMA didn't warrant an email about this.

    I think I at least got a pricing break from Virtual Graffiti, they tried to make it right


    If you are a paying client an email to support or your reseller(depending on your support level) is always warranted for any technical issue.

    By the way, that patch makes a HUGE difference to CPU use.

    CPU use looks better after the patch than any recent prior UTM version going back to v8 or so.

    Memory also looks MUCH better, although swap still grows to equal RAM usage.
    (Is this normal?)  Total RAM use on UTM320 is now around 30% with swap equaling that.  Previously I was maxing out or 90%+

    This patch makes a HUGE difference to CPU and RAM usage.  CPU/RAM looks best it has in last few years of versions.  No spiking either.

    Swap still a bit higher than RAM usage, (Say 33% swap vs 30% RAM). Unsure if this is normal.

    I'm seeing the CPU spike as well since upgrading, but unlike everyone else "snort" is what's taking up all the CPU.  If I start to download a few files it spikes.  Anyone else experiencing this?

    I'm running the UTM120.  Doesn't seem right because I have this on my home network and only have 5-6 machines.

    Hi, it's normal for Snort to use CPU during traffic; the amount of CPU used depends on the bandwidth in use, and the CPU power in the firewall.

    IIRC, the new UTM120s have an Intel Atom CPU; based upon my Atom at home, I would expect at least one core to near 100% utilization with around 60-70mbps in traffic.
    What are you seeing?

    I only have a 30Mbit connection and I don't think I was using more than 20Mbit for the downloads.

    I am running a rev5 of the UTM120 (just bought a few weeks ago).

    if there's no error restart the proxy and that should be taken care of.

    No replies at all from astaro sales. Support already RMA'd the unit. Reseller worked with astaro and I got a discount on bigger hardware again. Now I have a 220 paperweight.
