Upgrading from v7 to v9 HA-Synch issues

Hi at all,

i´m completeley new to this forum and astaro/sophos as well.
We are currently running a HA-Cluster with astaro appliances and v7.
As we know v7 is end of life. Now we bought 2 new Sophos 220 and want to replace the old cluster with them.
The internet is not completeley sure about whether it is possible do to a direct upgrade or not.
So i decided to download a backup file from the running v7 cluster and did inherit this file to our brand new devices.
Basically all Rules users etc are visable in both v9 devices.
But when it now comes to HA i have some issues because they never get out of Status: "Not linked" and "Synching"
They do notice each other and do handle an master and slave role but they never finish synching.

How can i get along with it?

    So okay...
    i didn´t had time for further testing but will try it today.
    So one says do not go to 9.1 the other one says go to 9.1 if you want to do HA.
    The Problem is that the customer needs/wants a feature from v9 -.-
    But at first i somehow need to get them in a cluster and then i can see how it behaves...

    Hi Akqadm ,

    I have few huge cluster systems tunning 9.101 ver.
    I will be happy to assist you if you want.
    Cluster is running great .
    I usually configure cluster manually , I don't love too much the auto config.
    I use a trick that I found to work all time.
    First install the first node.
    Then go to cluster config and configure this node , choose the interface you want.
    When you finish the config change the prefer master to - none.
    Then configure the other node with USB to restore backup.
    Do not connect it yet with other node.
    Now connect a laptop directly to this node to configure it .
    Go to cluster config an config it as nod I'd 2 and select the right interface  and again choose prefer master to none .
    Now reboot and connect them together.
    When they are both up go again to cluster config and choose prefer master , Noe you will see both there , choose the one you want to be the master and let them to sync .
    Then the cluster is running great.
    After both finish to sync reboot the prefer master and when the slave is working alone go to the cluster config again and look for the prefer master , sometimes it stays on none do just change it to the master id you configured the first one.

    Then you have a great running cluster.

    Inform how it went for you.

    Hi gilipeled,

    just a few minutes ago i tested Balfsons checklist but it didn´t helped.
    I still get an "permission denyed".
    So I will now try your thoughts [;)]

    I can´t believe...it works[[[:)]]]
    After reboot the second unit was again "synching" for a long time but this time it got out of synch state and now both units show up as active. On as Master the other as Slave.

    Finally all went well[[[:)]]]
    But one last question what is now the recommended software version? 9.1 or below?
    And if 9.1. is the best how do i upgrade? With an up2date upgrade file?

    Happy for you :-)
    I recommend the latest build of 9.101-12
    Oven if there are few issues yet its a great improvement and 9.102 will probably release soon also.

    I somehow didn´t get it installed. 
    I downloaded the Up2Date file  and uploaded it to the sophos.
    But i am afraid they need somehow a connection to the internet?

    Oh thats exactly what i did[;)]
    But now the second unit says for 3 hours "up2date" in its display....
    In the HA live log i can see that it seems to be trying to establish an internet connection. But its an offline file?!
