ASG 120 revision X

Hello to all, 

as the UTM V9 is near to be avalaible,  i'd like to try first at home thet at work. for the work appliances no problem, they are all ASG320 rev 4 and are reccomended / supported.

But at home i have a ASG120 rev 4 (expanded to 2GB) and this is not reccomended (referring to Sophos UTM 9 Release Notes). 

what'is the difference between ASG120 rev 4 and rev 5 ?

    uhm, i think is better to wait the final release of up2date, update to 9.00x and see what happen.. :-)


    a long long time ago i post this req, now after some months i have verified, renaming /etc/asg permit to use Home license on ASG appliances but hinibit up2date from 8.x to 9.x

    only way to update : download 9.1 iso for appliance, put 1GB of RAM in ASG120rev4 (with > 1GB RAM installation abort) and original or supported HDD (no way to install appliances iso on hdd different than 2 hitachi drives) then boot and install 9.1

    when ok, shutdown, put 2GB again in ASG120, restart. from console rename /etc/asg then from webui restore config (license info is in backup file)

    time for ops,

    Official communication permits installing 2gb ram on Rev4 120 boxes:

    ID21794 9.000 Support UTM 9 install on ASG 120 Rev4 with 2GB Memory
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Description:  As the ASG 110/120 supports 2GB memory, and we have
                  changed this for the Rev 5 to 2GB, the installer should
                  permit the "appliance" installation on a Rev4 which has
                  2GB memory. The customer can already install UTM with 1gb
                  and then swap in a 2GB anyways, so we might as well not
                  force them to keep swapping the DIMMS when they want to
                  re-install (or then open a support ticket) and just
                  support this.

    I found this ID in the list of known issues with Sophos UTM 9 - search for the ID I mentioned above.

    The installer allows installation, but be careful because cracking open your appliance will still void your support if you have it. This just allows those without support to do this with less trouble.

    I'm not sure why, but when i installed the ssi-9.004-33.1.iso
    the installation does not permit to continue until i come back to 1GB
    so at least not all version permit installation with 2GB

    Hi Roberto,

    The installer won't (currently) allow installation with modified RAM, but you can put the extra RAM in after installation, and up2dates will still work.

    As Up2date always permit updates with 2GB of RAM in asg120 i thinked was possible to install from scratch too.
