It could have been a bad burn. Check the md5 of the iso file that you downloaded. If it's ok then try re-burning, but instead of using speed at max specify a slower speed like 8x.

actually i only downloaded the iso... i did not download the md5 as previously i managed to get it to work...
i will burn the image again at an even slower speed and see what the result is like. i always burn image at a very slow speed to ensure "higher" accuracy...
I'm intrigued by having to slow down burning speeds. I've always wondered if it's the anti-crud most folks run that screws things up...or is it media..or drives..or some combo of all three......
Presumably due to the bios not waiting very long to see if the drive is bootable, if the drive can't read the boot sector in a second or so, the bios will skip it.
