ASG 8.0 and Small Business Server 2011

I did have proxy enabled, but running in transparent mode.  You were correct.  The I disabled it, re-ran my ISP's test as well as speetest.net and everything was stable again.

As for my cbc.ca/nb example.  Is it possible proxy is doing that also?  ASG is setup with a DNS forwarder to Small Business Server 2011.  SBS 2011 is DNS and has pointers back to the ISP gateway and 2 other Internet DNS Servers. 

What ISP do you use? That you read cbc quite a bit suggests you're a fellow Canuck. In my neck of the woods, BC, Shaw Cable uses a "speed boost" or "turbo boost" feature which can mess with you numbers. When I had their 5Mbps service I routinely pegged 20Mbps on speedtest because of it.

The transparent mode proxy could very well explain the issues you're seeing. Astaro uses real time queries of the their blacklist which has been reported to cause some issues in some cases. In my case it pretty much shutdown my connection till I disabled it.

In recent revisions of v8 there is a 'beta' feature which essentially caches the lists right on the router. For me it made the transparent mode filter usable and saved a lot of fiddling with the regular proxy modes. And because it's router side, the kids can't bypass it. [:)]

I am indeed a Canuck from New Brunswick.  My ISP is Bell Aliant.  I am using their new 70Mb fiber service.  Disabling the proxy temporarily serves only to test my speed, more for my own piece of or "SLA" type thinking.

If disabling it all together is what's required to get sites like CBC to work or the proper presentation of CNN.com, I may need to rethink the product - again.  I'm sure there's something else I'm overlooking.  Besides, I have learned SOOOOO much about our teenagers surfing habits! [;)]  It's for that reason I won't risk having gateway level AV/malware protection.

BTW - I'm not sure if it good or bad forum etiquette, but I sent you a pm on the weekend.

We only have a choice of DSL or Cable out my way. The big city of Vancouver has fiber service now in select areas but we're a few years away. [8-)]

The local caching feature for the Web Proxy database  is supposed to be available as of v8.2, which is currently in beta. If you follow this link it will cover how to enable the feature in later 8.0x releases. I've used it and it works beautifully.

As for your CNN issue, it could be related or it may not. The usual cause for links changing size & color within a website is typically caused by issues with the CSS stylesheet. As that's just another file it's possible the web proxy corrupted the file. I'd recommend try clearing your browser's cache and reloading the page.

You can also create proxy rule exceptions or even bypass proxy usage for individual websites that you may be having an issue with.  Play around with these and see if any of them help.

I had an old Athlon MP w/ a dozen or so SATA disks and when I shut that unit of for a month to see how much power it drew, my bill went down by about $20. [[:)]]

That's exactly what I'm afraid of.  I have 5 servers running with a total of 12 SCSI drives and 21 SATA drives.  The only good thing I did is when we built our house, this past summer, I had our ducting guy put a return vent dangling over my Rack.  At least I get to recycle some of the heat in the winter time!  [;)]

Upside of the wattage is that if your electricity costs less then your gas, you can sometimes save a bit on heating in the winter. A few years back a friend determined he was saving around 3-5% on his heating bill in Winter by keeping the PC's turned on all day.
