ASG 7.508 Soft-Release #2

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday we replaced the currently offered 7.508 Soft-release with an updated one. To make sure everyone sees this update, I am making a separate thread vs. just updating the old one. For the main 7.508 information, see this post: https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/52/t/27710


The download link remains the same, ftp://ftp.astaro.de/pub/ASG/v7/up2date/u2d-sys-7.508.tgz.gpg however based on our own feedback and your results, we have also done the following, along with many little misc fixes:

 - Fix up2date tabs on software installations
  - Fix possible issue when using backend auth for WebAdmin access
  - Fix confidentiality footer only for outgoing emails
  - Fix bridging feature for special interfaces


We would be very interested in appliance users who click the 'upgrade to v8' button and how you make out when doing this. Your results are appreciated! I will close the other thread and let feedback continue here.

    After upgrading one of the ASG220 (Full Guard) to 7.508: a message on the upgrade to v8 tab says:

    A product upgrade to version 8 is available. However, for compliance reasons, you are not able to upgrade yet, because Wireless Security is not yet available with the current V8 upgrade package.

    on the other ASGs I have the upgrade to V8 button without any problem.

    Any idea?

    If you have Wireless active on a 7.50x system, you cannot upgrade to 8.00x since wireless is not included in the early Version 8 systems.  Wireless will be in 8.100 (including the currently available beta).

    That warning message and the upgrade restriction are to prevent you from losing wireless functionality in an upgrade.

    If you are not using the wireless features, make sure all wireless configurations are removed and/or disabled and retry the upgrade.

    EDIT: Never Mind, looks like Jack covered this...

    If you bought or renewed Full Guard recently, it included WAF and Wireless Security in the license.  Since 8.002 (the version that the built in upgrade process updates you to) does not include this feature at all, I'm guessing they disable upgrades to prevent loss of functionality in case an admin doesn't realize this would be an issue.

    I imagine that once 8.100 is out of beta in in release status, that the update process would use that image, which does support Wireless Security.  As an alternative (if you are in a hurry to go to 8.002), your reseller should be able to provide a temporary license without Wireless Security, which should allow you to perform the upgrade... after which you can re-apply your original license.

    Thanks for the replies, I'll  try first to disable it and see if the button will come up, if not I will do what BrucekConvergent said, install a trial license without wireless and upgrade.

    BTW Anything new on how to downgrade software installation to re-apply the new 7.508 update.

    You're right, I missed that.  Have you tried:

    As root at the command line 
    cd /var/up2date/sys

    wget ftp.astaro.de/.../u2d-sys-7.508.tgz.gpg

    /sbin/auisys.plx --showdesc

    and install in WebAdmin.

    Couple of questions.

    1) Like a moron, I was just following instructions here and set version to 0666 so that I could change the version number.  I forgot to check what it was set to before I changed it (/facepalm).  Could someone tell me what it is supposed to be set to?  I have it set to 0640 at the moment.

    2) I have an issue where (even though I set version back to 7.507) in the up2date section, I had changed firmware updates to manual a few versions ago, and since there's a bug now where you can't open up the configuration or advanced tabs, I can't manually upload the new firmware.  When I press the "Check for updates" button nothing changes on the main up2date tab and this is what I see in the up2date log:

    I just did it and it worked like a champ.  Thanks so much.

    BTW, any idea what the default file permissions on /etc/version is supposed to be?
