ASG V8.001 Up2Date Soft Release

Greetings, 

Our first Up2Date for V8 has been made available via our soft-release process, which makes it available via ftp & manual install, followed next week by a push to existing installations.

This release fixes some bugs with how Web Application Security handles connections for protection of Outlook Web Access servers, optimizing that communication. We have also adjusted the very popular Country Blocking to ensure traffic can flow to essential Astaro Internet resources, for example RED provision servers, global email scanning repositories etc...so that your blocking choices shouldn't interfere with ASG operations.
In addition, some bugs were addressed and some hardware glitches for our software users were solved. This release is mostly for urgent fixes, with a larger bug-addressing release planned for 8.002.

[14364] ASG does not use ESMTP for "Skip TLS negotiation hosts"
[14400] WAF disabled in predefined reverse proxy profiles
[14427] No successful boot with Perc H200
[14469] Country Blocking blocks essential services
[14519] GRUB fails to install properly on some HP servers

Barring any major issues, this is the exact same package which will be pushed out via Up2Date next week.

    hi there, could the people affected by the freezing problem post the following information, to help me reproduce / locate the problem:

    -output of the `version` command (if you still have ssh access)
    -if you can't get the `version` information: which image did you use for initial installation(asg/ssi, official GA release/beta release)
    -your hardware configuration(if you use an appliance, model number and revision)
    -anything that's special on your box(for ex. manually installed rpms)
    -can you still access the asg over the network?
    -whether you use an usb or ps2 keyboard

    It would be good to release the Updates not as a softrealease..
    I really feel like a testrabbit here again...is this 8.001 followed by 8.0001a again like always..where can i be sure i run the right version.
    We had some difficults in v7 with pre versions of up2dates and i say its not a good idea to prerelease fixes with the same versionnumber.
    Me talking as a user using Astaro from pre v2 and be sure i like the Product. :-)

    One more thing...i also dislike the avatars used by several Astaro employees...if my customers see that they might feel bad using the product just because of that.
    Sure Astaro goes more and more a more serious way but some conservative customers which will read this board will get even AFRAID when they see Angelos Avatar in my opinion....  ;-)
    Just a Hint..as Astaro is a Business product used by several 100xthousand and not a linux opensource product deeloped by longbearded sandalwearing worldchangergurus...NO ? :-)

    If your customers go through the official support channels, then they won't see the avatars used here on the community support forum. [:P]

    Personally, I like the informal nature that personal avatars imply; it gives me a better feeling of working with real people instead of faceless drones.

    When they know it and are now - at the same time - your customers the avatars were no real problem [:)]

    Furthermore, some Astaro staff members are quite hard to be recognized by forum newcomers...
    I personally like the open and friendly "unofficial" character/manner of the community in here.

    Be sure i know this Product inside out with all bugs what we made through since that time..

    ASG is a great Firewall(its much more than that for sure) and i will not argue that much..but we had some serious problems in early stage deployments..that i can tell you..not that i were to stupid to set it up...no just the mistake to install a new major release much too early..  ;-)

    I just decided to NOT update my customers to v8 in the next 3 month.
    7.506 is running good also in HA environments so..why should i with a 8.000 release...??
    Had probs with v4 v5 v6 v7 until more than 10 major up2dates got released... fed up being a testrabbit...some others can do that now.. :-)
    Will play v8.000 on my own corporate firewall but NOT yet on cusomers...too many shaky comments by astaro employees and others posted here..so i will wait!

    Just uploaded 8.001 (prewhateverversion) on my own firewall at office.. hoping the licencing issue is fixed..lets pray it comes online...  :-D

    "pre"8.001 up2date now installed ..so far nothing to argue..
    v8 runs here as same as 7.506 except that licence bug...so if thats now fixed i might dare to migrate some customers..

    I wasn't trying to cast aspersions on you or your customers, but simply pointing out the difference between official support channels and community support boards.  I would not expect personalized or "scary" avatars in official support channels, but on a community forum I believe they show the human face of the company.
