Intel Atom N610 - Overall Performance and IPSEC Performance

Hello,

i want to build a small fanless powersaving mini-itx based system with ASG.
Some data:

Intel D510MO Mainboard with Atom D510 processor
Onboard NIC 10/100/1000
4 GB RAM
Intel Pro Desktop Network Adapter PCI, 1-Port 1000/100/10
2,5'' SSD if possible and advisable

WAN Uplink: Cable Modem, 100 Mbit down, 10 MBit up.

~ max. 5 concurrent clients
~ max. 2 concurrent ipsec connections

ASG:
- Firewall
- SPI
- no antivirus or mail scanning
- roadwarrior ipsec connections
or site-to-site ipsec vpn

Is the D510 processor powerful enough to comply these tasks without performance issues ? Or is there a better solution ?

But, 4 is better...

dropping to 2 from 3 to satisfy requirements? That doesn't make nay sense..please explain..[:)]

Hi,
I am considering a similar build on a different board, I would be very interested to know if you can get Astaro smp version installed and running on both cores. Also I am considering the SSD option, my research revealed that there is a new firmware for Indilinx Barefoot that has background garbage collection to keep performance from degrading over time, this is like a built in TRIM function, but without the Windows requirement. Here in the US the Corsair Nova series goes for ~$100 and supports this feature.

Hello,

i successfully installed ASG V8 beta on the system mentioned above. ASG V7 installer couldn't be booted on the system without disabling acpi (start options: noapic acpi=off).

ASG V8 Beta runs now fine, with 64bit SMP-Kernel. The Dual Cores are both used, and Hyperthreading does work, too.

Hello,
Supermicro has two boards out with the atom d510 for around $200. (more money than the intel board for sure, or other brands for the matter) but this board has two intel NIC's built in. It would be the best choice for this type of project if not for its higher price.
