RED devices

Hi,

is there anyone here that has any details on the RED devices Astaro will be offering in Q2?
Will this be a black box, no management at all? 
Will this be a remote IPSec VPN enabled solution?

We have a couple of 'remote offices'-customers, that only need access to the central network, and those RED devices might be very appealing. If they'd do the trick, we don't want them to invest in a more heavy product now, to have a simpeler solution available in a couple of weeks time...

    This sounds nice and fairly cool, but if I am understanding this correctly... how will this work with disaster recovery?  If the main office is wiped out it seems you would have to have another Astaro box at a different location all setup to be able to use this. That is a big expense for smaller businesses. With a "generic" VPN device at branch offices you would be able to connect to anything that supports IPSEC/Certificates. 


    I'm not in marketing, but if your main office is wiped out you can fairly easy setup a virtual or software ASG with your current backup. This can be setup very quickly and could help until the replacement box arrives. (I understand that the bank might not like the idea to run the 30-days trial license, though)

    We do not have the option of adding an ASG at our DRC.  We do not own it nor do we run it.  They have it setup for all their customers using basic VPN settings.  Our DRC is several states away, not that it matters.

    Hi all, this is a response from Christian Louis at Astaro regarding split tunneling:

    Split tunneling cannot be configured through the GUI, but the functionality is there and can be activated through confd (see Astaro.org UBB posts for details).
    But, since it cannot be configured through the GUI, configuration of split tunneling (though technically possible) will probably not be supported by us.

    You are welcome to discuss those alternatives with Tom directly in the UBB RED beta forum.

    I hope this helps. The split routing has been a request from a number of my resellers here in the UK, and this is allowing us to open up to more requirements, which is ideal for the customers.
