astaro and compact flash

Hi there all, 

Just a few questions:

Who can show me Virus scanning gateway, that handles HTTP/POP3/SMTP and is running completly from flash and ram without a harddisk?
(And please don't tell my Fortinet, if our maximum object size we scan for viruses is  limited to max 10MB and we only handle  a few compression algorithms, we could do this too).

How long can you store your logfiles on a cisco pix?

Does checkpoint firewall itself (not the reporting suite) generate detailed reporting information like Astaro and sends it via email?

Does Sonichwall or Fortinet support Spam Email quarantine and Email queuing?

Does Watchguard offer a caching HTTP proxy?


Those and more are the reasons why we decided to integrate a harddisk into our product. 
The advantage of those advanced features is far bigger than the possible drawback of having a component which more likly to fail sooner.

We had a system in the field that was running ASL 1.8 continously (no reboot) for appr. 4 1/4 years, than they upgraded to ASL V5.

dont jump on Fortigate :-). 10 MB for scanning is only the factory preset, can be changed to any size you want. And Fortigate, a least the larger ones have a harddisk for logging. And HA works much better than the one implemented on the Astaro.

Ah Pix, isnt that the thing you get for free if you buy a larger Catalyst? Sonicwall and Watchguard, still wondering who is buying those. :-).

Which means fortigate can't run totally from flash..at least not if you want one that has enterprise level features?  Cisco's are free nly for a time..then it's $$$ time.

Fortigate is a joke. They are constantly missing viruses and have no where near the VPN throughput of Astaro. Even the enterprise models with hard drive support can't do the things Astaro does. As for their logging....THERE isn't any. You have to buy a separate device to log basic network and content filtering data. Any of you considering fortigate STAY AWAY! Astaro is the only all in one security solution that I know of that has consistantly kept my home network secure. Keep up the great work Astaro!

well, troubel is that Astaro is limited to max. 350 MBit VPN traffic, due to freeswan. Logging is a problem for every none HD Device, so all larger Fortigates got an onboard HD for logging or push logs to the syslog server. 
Trouble is, if you need 2GBit+ AV-Scanning, fortigate is the only system that can handle it. We made multiple tests with 100% hit rate on viruses, an VPN Speed with a mid-range system of 700 MBit. 
But you are right, its not an All-In-One product like the Astaro.
