Random traffic stops

Hello All

Anyone else experiensing random, total traffic stops that last aproximetely 10 seconds and stops all traffic going in or out of your network ? Those stops ( ~40 )happens at random interwall during a day regardless of network traffic. Any ideas how to start debugging this problem?

 I have tried 2 different computers and 6 different network cards with astaros version 5.007 up to 5.023 with no success. To pinpoint this problem to fw i put a hub between ADSL modem and firewall and connected a laptop to hub. While downloading a 300 Mb file from internet  simultaniously from lattop and firewalled computer, computer disconnected 2 times causing transfer to stop ( i had to restart loading) and the laptop got it fine.

Any ideas how to find out the fault in this setup ?

Hardware used:

333 celeron, 192Mb memory, 20 GB HD
450 P3, 384 Mb memory, 10 GB HD

network cards fom 3com, intel and acton ( totalling 6)

    I had a problem that looks similar when I was using a box with 2xPIII/850 on an ASUS P2B-DS. I guess, some older boards do have Interrupt problems APIC/ACPI or how this feature is called. The reason with my machine was a faulty design with this board revision by ASUS. Now I run Dell PowerEdge 2650 and I don't have these problems any longer.
    I guess, ASL 5.x only runs perfect on newer machines. Maybe a kernel-problem. But Astaro offers 3 kernels at installation time. Did you test all of them?
    How did you test those different machines? Did you do a reinstall for each machine? Are the machines different?

    I used the default Installation kernel. I will try that classic option tonight when i get back. Allso today i will have 5.024 installation media availble so i see if that makes any difference.

    333 celeron machine is orginal IBM 300PL 

    450 P3 machine is some old clone machine builed by using old leftover parts.

    Every installation is allways new instalaltion, including license file and default interface/nat/rules setup.

    Those "machines" have runned Astaro 5.0XX fine, untill i had few days downtime due the ISP change. For some reason they refuse to do so anymore. ISP problem is filtered out.

    Easiest way to test that connection works is just download/upload large file. It newer compeletes and when looking data transfer rates @ modem interface meters, all data transfer is stopped. it starts again in about 5 seconds when programs notices disconnection and restarts transfer

    Maybe a kernel-problem, but I'm not sure. But if you can say, the provider is okay then it can be the only reason, that comes into  my mind.

    The only thing I would think about it:

    - Intrusion detection
    (- Maybe connection tracking helper)

    (Assumed you do not use the Proxy.)

    Tried fresh install using classic installation and 5.024 media. Same results. Cant find anythin @ all on logs. Checked that intrusion detection and all proxyx are off. ´This gets weird =)

    We had a similar problem with more frequent disconnects/reconnects than you describe. The  hardware we used is much older/smaller than yours and it works fine on another line  (ISP) thus verifying the  hardware and Astaro software. WE finally traced it to a setup  parameter. (In our case it was  the static IP address  assigned by the ISP  should  not have been hard coded in the setup parms).

    Can you spesify in "dummy user" language what did you exactly do ?

    To add on my story on different hardware test i took brand new netvista s50 and installed astaro 4 and 5 on it. traffic stops still continued. Then i took my old 333mhz celeron patched newest astaro 5.025 to it and tried... Still disconnects / traffic stops. Then i tried m0n0wall withoout hard drive on that same machine and ... everything works fine, no traffic stops, no disconnects, nothing. So this cant be hardware malfunction. I resently changed ISP and i think this problem is somehow related to that. 

    ISP configuration is that i get IP from ISP DHCP server directly to astaro external interface, from there it's NAT :ed and DNAT/SNAT :ed to internal computers. Best part is that every time that new patch comes out i can just put power cable to Firewalls hd, install patch, try it and if it dont help problen just remove power and go back to use m0n0wall.

    Sounds similar, but i am pretty sure that i dont have hardware problem. i might have some config or similar problem cause problems started o occur after ISP change, but untill nothing i tried in configuration helped.

    UPDATE: installed up2date 5.026, no changes. Traffic stops 4-6 times / hour making net unusable.  [:(]
