its about the same here in germany. on the last bill it was ~0.15€/kwh, if i remember correctly.

[/ QUOTE ]Calgary, and all of Alberta, is on the western North American power grid, thus the 120/240 V, 60 Hz power we get here is connected and phase coherent with British Columbia, the Yukon, California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Colerado, Nevada, Montana and west Texas.

Very interesting discussion (not) but I really don't care about electricity bills or form factors. All I (and I suppose some other office users) care is "how to get the best performance". In almost all cases, this means having seperate disks...so why can an Astaro installation not use the second (or tjird,...) disk for e.g. the proxy or the var partition?

Aside from the fact that the OS loads from the hard drive on startup, once the machine is up and running, the disk activity is not all that great. You have the ongoing logging, with the kernel logging and packet filter logging generally creating the largest logs, the Squid proxy cache, and the mail spooling by the outbound SMTP proxy. All in all, this does not amount to a great deal, so there isn't really enough disk activity to justify multiple drives as a performance issue, unless you have a very large network, with a lot of users, being served by a single Astaro box

I only pay .05 cents per KWH in the summer and .07 cents per KWH in the winter.
