Sophos Roadmap 2015

Anyway, I don't have any grandiose illusions that Sophos is going to change their direction based on my opinion. I'm just stating it for the record. My son and I are generally happy with UTM and impressed with the overall capability and reliability, but many of the features Sophos is developing aren't high up on our needs, whereas the things we would like are not getting done. That's why we are taking a look at pfsense. We would have done it sooner, but it's only recently that pfsense will run on hyper-v

Well, there's still Copernicus, the "replacement" for UTM coming up soon.  We'll have to see how that goes.  Nobody freak-out that I say replacement.  UTM is not going away today or tomorrow and still has a few years left in it, but Copernicus will be the amalgam of UTM and Cyberoam with the intended purpose of replacing both by taking the best of each.  Over time, more resources will be dedicated to Copernicus and less to each of its' ancestors.  Hopefully this will make for a better product, as resources will no longer have to be shared between multiple products that serve the same purpose.

The internal tech preview is available to Sophos employees, mainly SE's and ProServices.
Been running it for a week now.  It's a step towards greatness and will benefit highly from this community.

Sophos announced today on a partner event, there should be a public beta end of July.

Great, but I hope that doesn't mean a shorter EOL, or that users are expected to 'upgrade' frequently.

I'm not impressed with the amount of RAM in some of the current SG models, fwiw.

Why are the SG appliances going to have revisions (2, 3) every year?

Under "Hardware" the Roadmap shows "All SG rev 2" for early Q3 2015, which is now.  I'm looking to purchase a pair of SG 125 but could put this off a month if there is a better model coming, maybe with more RAM.  Any information or theories on when new models might be available?

While I don't see it happening would be nice to be able to make the UTM an authoritative DNS server so it can do zone transfers.  I use my Synology as a backup DNS server to my 2012 R2 VM's.  Not a deal breaker, but a nice feature.

Things I'd like to see:

1. Be able to statically assign an AP from the UTM.  I know you can do a Reservation, but you should just be able to assign it an IP from the web interface.

2. Better reporting for Email Protection.  One of the features I liked about the Barracuda Spam Filter was the ability to pull headers and what not for any mail coming into the appliance.  I know on the Sophos once it leaves the box (and isn't quarantined) that information is gone.

@BreakingCustom:  Feature requests can be made at UTM (Formerly ASG) Feature Requests: Hot (2259 ideas).  It's great to post them here for the sake of discussion with other users, but requests made here will not be seen by Sophos, so would have zero chance of inclusion.
