Sophos Roadmap 2015

Hi,

Just attended the Sophos UTM 9.3 Webinar today and they showed us this RoadMap.

There is hopefully something to look forward to :-)

    the 105 being 2 gigs yeah that's a bit short.  are there any others?


    Someone I know accidentally bought 2 UTM110's (one for home, one for his single-person office) from an online reseller without talking to me first; I told him it would be too weak as he turned on ALL the features except email (and he wants that too) and he has 100mbit+ WAN connections at both locations...

    He eventually returned them both; the office one first. The SG1xx weren't announced yet so I told him to get a SG2xx (I don't remember the model atm)...

    When his home unit started getting slow and services started crashing, I convinced him to return it and get an SG135 for home.

    I was wary of the lower models (including the SG125) as I don't want to recommend something with only 4GB RAM, with the probable likelyhood that he'd have to upgrade it in the next year or two (depending upon features added, etc. by Sophos) (and based on what I've seen in the past).

    Unfortunately, the SG135 is significantly more expensive than the lower models.

    At home, I am OK with 2-4GB RAM, as I'm only using the IPS and ATP, but it's trivial for me to upgrade the i5 to 8GB if needed as I'm using commodity hardware.

    I think 4 gigs in the lower units are perfectly viable.  I've been running 4 gigs here for a year and i'm VERY hard on my installs..[:)]

    I'm surprised; I frequently see you telling home users to get 8GB.

    for home users or users who are using their own hardware most assuredly use 8 gigs as a minimum.  I am at 4 gigs in my utm because i ma out of ram in host and 200 bucks to upgrade it isn't in the budget right now.  In terms of the appliances if you stick within the sizing guidance the ram installed in the new appliances works..until v10 at least possibly..

    Make that 9.4...9.5...9.6...9.x...etc.  ;P  I get the feeling that the v10 concept is being rolled into Copernicus.

    Given the current state of the UTM, one has to be awfully thirsty to drink any of this Kool-Aid

    I am using 16GB for a 2.4 Atom Rangley  8 core. Over kill yes, but I will NEVER wonder if I have enough ram till this board dies. This board is what will be in the SG 135 so for 3 people on a home network,  it is all I will every need. Then add Quick Assist in 9.4/9.5,  even faster.

    He you'll be good for a looooong time depending on your environment of course at least in the ram dept.

    I've also attended this NEEMEA partner webinar, and since Chris was very short on time the last few slides of presentation were presented very quickly without going into details.

    But....he mentioned that the customers will have choice to upgrade from 9.35 either to 9.4 (and to continue with 9.x path) or to Copernicus 1 firmware version (if I understood correctly...?).
