Personally I expect after some time, deterioration of product quality and support.

Now Sourcefire 3D System has no competition. Other manufacturers IPS solutions offer significantly lower quality and functional solution.

They play a completely different league ...

I suspect somebody will fork it. I just look at what happened with Open Office & MySQL after they were bought out by larger closed source players. Members of the dev teams forked their own projects from the original and are continuing on.
