Best DNS

Is it best to let the astaro box look up root dns information. Or rely on a external 3d party DNS server? Or possibly even use a internal one. Reson I ask is the root dns servers are more trusted.

    My ISP has problems with their dns servers often, and my neighbors complain for NO INTERNET [:)] I use only Google DNS in forwarders and have nice ping with that ip (8.8.8.8)
    Considering that is a service, find the best server and the best connection

    Kind why I was asking about it. I know my ISP does hijacking of the DNS requests and that is not right. So just looking at other choices could say that is secure and well will not sell your web browsing to ad people.

    I believe I know what kind of hijacking you're referring to...

    FWIW, OpenDNS sort of does hijacking too, otherwise they couldn't show a warning page if you try to go to a malware site, or if you choose to block gambling sites or pron or whatever.
    They also show a page if you try to go to a site with no DNS.
    (I'm happy with OpenDNS for personal use.)

    I'm not sure what GoogleDNS does.

    If you want plain old DNS with no redirects or whatever, there's servers such as GTE/Verizon which seem to work from anywhere in the US at least:
    4.2.2.1
    4.2.2.2
    ...
