My UTM Setup

I have now run my old HW and now i cant benefit of the last  update cuse the lack of power.

so i found a Intel motherboard whit one NCI and a reltec addon-card.
And as u know the Astaro don't support addon NCI.

so heres what i did:
Foud a old housing old out ranked PC, hdd, some DIMM chips (2x1000 2x512), PSU and a Optical drive.
i did a clean install of Win7Pro whit all updates.
turned off auto update that force the pc to reboot
"msconfig" unchecked all unnessesery services and prog startup.
installed vm Virualbox and created a 60gb VID-HDD and assigned 1024mb ram.
under settings assigned 3 virual NCIs (wan,LAN,config)
did a ISO install of UTM v9 and all the usual settings.

if the ram is running short i can fix this under settings and wola...

this setup has now all service activated just to c if it stable and have run now 4 a week. and no problem waht so ever.

have also a VPN connection to my brother that was about 500kbs before. now is full power. 20mbit


PC:
Intel DG33EC
Intel Core 2 E5200
Ram 2x1024 2x512 (i think i need more later on but good 4 now)
500gb HDD
NCI 1 Intel PRO 1GBLAN
NCI 2 Raltec 100mbit
8GB USBpenn (speed Booster)

i did see the VM version of UTM on the ftp but i didnt get it to work.

    What i did in virtualbox is to set the WAN NIC to a random ip in win without a gw. 

    Then brige it in Virtualbox to the wan port o  the Astaro.

    The LAN is set to dhcp in win and birged to the Astaro Lan port.

    Problem solved

    Andrew, so you are saying that you're bridging the laptop's wireless interface with the External interface of the UTM and changing the routing tables in Windows to use the Internal interface of the UTM as the default gateway?  Were there any other tricks or gotchas?  Did you create a script for this?

    Essentially. I can't think of any specific gotchas as I was able to replicate my laptop config at home in about 30min from memory.

    I should post a how-to when I get back to the office later next week.

    starting on my old thread again.
    My setup was taken by thunderstorm a while back and just have a dlink router runnung at the moment.

    I have a Acer Revo 3710. D520 Atom 2 og 4 gb ram.
    the probem are it has one wlan and one lan NIC.

    is there a way to use this pc whit UTM?

    I know the issue is suported NIC, but is there a way to go around that and still have a good setup?

    Hi, 

    Does it have a PCI or PCIe slot?

    Otherwise, some USB NICs are sort of supported in v9, but from the posts here, the performance is around 1mbps.

    So, if you don't care about performance, you could add a USB NIC if you can find one that has a driver in v9.

    The WLAN NIC cannot be used.

    I have now finiched building my ASG setup.
    Runnung now a 
    Acer Aspire Revo R3710
    Atom D520 Dual atom whit HT. Results in quad core.
    2 GB ram
    320gb hdd
    I pulled out the wlan mini pci-e card an replace it with a dual GBlan whit intel chip.
    Onboard a nVidia ion chip with nForce GBlan.
    All three nic is recognized by asg sw.
    Whit all options on the setup is putting tru 23Mbit
    All off, the setup is maxing out my fiber so dont know what it can do. (25/25)

    Did a speed test at speedtest.net and it did 28/48 but dont think the calculations is correct.
