Astaro.org on your iPhone and Android

Hi Everyone,

I'm pleased to announce that now our User Forums have become more mobile friendly. We have added an official application using a ForumRunner backend to allow you full interaction with the Astaro.org forums on your iPhone and Android devices.

When visiting the astaro.org URL in your mobile browser, you should get prompted if you would like to install the application via the appropriate app store, however depending on if you've tested it in the past or are using a different Forum Runner product you might not see that auto-prompt.

In any case, to enjoy the full forums in a slick mobile application, just search for Astaro (or Astaro.org) in your phones app store/market. We'll look to add Blackberry support near the end of summer perhaps when its available.

You can see threads, post, check your PM's, and get push notifications for various events. Oh I forgot, it's totally free. [;)]

Enjoy!

  • Any update on this? Especially since the beta is out. This forum is unusable on android app and chrome.
  • I'm not sure what's going on with this either -- I've posted in the mod forum here and got no response their either.

  • Android is totally unusable with this site now..firefox..."internet", chrome, the app...none of them work at all since this https switch(which frankly really isn't needed).

  • Actually I did notice a month ago that Firefox on Android was working again.. however, the android app for the forum is still busted.

  • I tried the Tapatalk app as it supports many VBulletin sites, but couldn't find this forum.

Maybe Sophos should ask Tapatalk to add it. I don't think they charge as their app is add-supported (and there's a premium version with no ads). A single install of the app supports many forums.

Pretty sure the astaro app is a branded tapatalk. They just need to enable support for the https.

Also if they just added support for the regular app it would be even better.
  • Are the Android problems related to the incomplete certificate chain?  The server sends only its own certificate and not the intermediate for RapidSSL CA.

The astaro.org branded app tries to load (post) http://www.astaro.org/forumrunner/request.php which yeilds an HTTP 302 redirect (to https) from the server.  The app does not appear to handle this redirection and returns an error.

The forumrunner side of things on the server appears to work:

    curl -k --data "cmd=login&frm=1.3.18&frp=a&username=YOURUSERNAME&password=YOURPASSWORD" www.astaro.org/.../request.php

If the app can't be updated perhaps the forced redirect for /forumrunner could be removed?

There appears to be quite a rabbit hole of forum software versions, supported features and auxiliary apps (variably first and third party).
  • heck just make the site load in a usable manner with chrome on a mobile browser on android..don't need the app(which wasn't all that great to begin with anyway)..[:)]

  • So it's easier to unsticky this post instead of fix the android app?
