Home User 10 IP Limitation

I suppose the volume is not as important as what he's charging for said email hosting. Perhaps he hosts an email domain for a large group of some sort of enthusiasts. If its free and hosted for personal reasons...
My mail server hosts 2 accounts. Me and the mrs. However, ASG receives a few thousand addressed to non-valid domains. Of the ones addressed to my domain, which are then forwarded to my mail server, about 50% are to invalid users. Of the ones addressed to valid users, 95% is spam. That's about 1000-1200 / day spam emails addressed to either me or my wife.

I'd just love to know what all those accounts are for.

Yes.. the amount of emails per day is very Hi, but i have only 7 protected Server.. my only question is if the Home license can handle the amount of conections (300 concurrent users aprox) and reponding to Simon Shaw, NO i am Not a Spammer... or i dont need an AntiSpam Solutions. but i have a a personal hosting for my classmate university and we receive 500.000 email per day for this emails accounts, because the entire University have a personal email in my servers.
Today my firewall protection is from IPCOP, but i Love Astaro and want to remplace whit Astaro.

In my home network I have the following IP Devices:

3 PCs
1 Laptop
3 Nintendo DS Lites
1 Satellite TV receiver
1 VOIP phone
1 Internet Camera
1 iPod Touch
Occasional guest laptops/devices

I REALLY like my ASG.  The feature I depend on most is the Web Content Filtering for the kids.  I hope they're considering upping the limit on IPs for their extremely generous home use license OR developing a reasonably-priced license for the connected home.

Maybe buy a small netgear/linksys box and nat the 3 DS's and the TV receiver? 
Or NAT all your wireless. (laptops, DS).

Astaro is very cheap to purchase in the grand scheme of things. If a university has hired you to host their email which I couldn't even begin to think why a university would need to, then you should put together a price for email hosting that would cover any cost of ownership on hardware/software and your time. And if you're just giving it away, you might want to either invest or get some of your users to cough up a couple dollars to invest in a new system for you to use.

Just to put things in to prospective. The company I work for has 1700 email users. We receive about 70,000 emails a day. Normally 60-70% of those are spam. You're asking to run 8.5 times what we do which would put your user count around 14,000 users and you say you don't need any spam/virus protection? This smells funny to me boys and girls...

How are you queueing this many emails? What kind of connection are you using?

Hi Loller:  when using a "home license - 10 IPs"... of course assuming under the guise of honesty that one IS indeed just under 10 computers... all those 10 computers (IP addresses) avail of the following services "concurrently" (or all at the same time):

• packet rules
  
• NAT
  
• HTTP proxying
  
• SMTP proxying
  
• intrusion protection (ie: from P2P's, warez, etc)
  
• and of course, my favorite... MONITORING, ACCOUNTING, and REPORTING!
  

That's just to name a few that are enabled in the home edition.  Now when you exceed more than 10 IP's or computers, for example if you're using transparent HTTP proxying (which I love because it lets me monitor my users without intruding on their computers), only 10 computers can browse the internet at the same time, the rest will just get a "squid proxy error" or some other generic accessibility error which simply means the firewall is trying to limit access to only 10 IPs.  Same goes for the rest of the above services.

And to the 6000 account guy a few threads ago... all I can say is:  WHOA! I bet you gotta have a helluva bandwidth and really souped up PC to run your "home license" firewall to cope up with all that concurrent traffic.  [H]

I'm sure there's one around here somewhere but I'd really rather not double-NAT.

Maybe Astaro could just eliminate IPs that are only using the packet filter from the license count.  That would certainly buy me some time.  I only enable web security for the kids' computer.  At least until they figure out how to get around it.  [:)]

A 10 IP address limit is just not realistic.  Too many non-workstation devices are IP/WiFi enabled now.  The number of IP devices on my network is only going to go up, but we'll still just be a household of four.

Not to mention the fact that "hiding" additional devices behind a NAT router is probably a violation of the Home-Use license agreement.

Right. So if you do the math 500,000 / 24 hours is 20833 per hour avrage + 300 users avrage as quoted. I would say that you would easly exceed you 1000 connection limit and if so the mail would back up and just compond the problem.

 exim has a smtp_accept_max=20 connection limit afaik so the iptables connection limit wont be a problem - as long as he uses exim and not just routing mails in and out ...
