Problems when ISP speed cap is enforced

Environment:
ASG 7.101
ADSL modem/FW 192.168.2.1 on a 1500/256 link
ASG Internal 192.168.2.254, External 192.168.3.254. No masquerading.
All workstations on the 192.168.3.0 network.
ASG acts as DHCP server and web proxy.

A few days ago, I exceeded my data limit so the ISP throttled the link to 64K
This happened at midnight. The next morning my son complained about no Internet access from his computer.

ASG is not pingable from the 192.168.3.0 network and it doesn't accept web admin connections. It's not allocating IP addresses to workstations requesting them.

Putting my machine on the 192.168.2.0 network allows me to connect to the ASG machine and all looks 'normal'

I've restarted multiple times (though haven't listend for the beeps) and restored a known good backup.

The only thing that's changed in this environment is the bandwidth restriction.
Any ideas [:S]

(Tempted to not fiddle and see if all 'comes good' when the throttle is removed on the 1st)

    Maybe the ISP changed the way their DHCP server works?
    Or are you using PPPoE?

    To clarify, the ASG is the DHCP server for the workstations on the 192.168.3.0 netwwork.

    The ISP link is working, I confirmed this by plugging my workstation into the 192.168.2.0 network and successfully connecting (albeit slowly) to Internet sites.

    Have you tried turning TCP Window Scaling off?

    Edit 1: Hmm, where do you turn that off in v7...?
    Edit 2: It's under Network -> Packet Filter -> Advanced. It defaults to off so that isn't likely the issue...

    I was asking about the ISP's DHCP server, which the EXT interface would get it's IP from. Unless you have a static IP, or PPPoE DSL.

    drees, I'll have a look at the scaling tonight. From recollection I turned it on.

    I have to wonder if they somehow break TCP window scaling when they throttle your account... the symptoms sound possible. BUT the default window scale of 2 should be small enough to avoid issues even with broken routers which regards to tcp window scaling, but it can't hurt to try.

    I did two things this evening and things are now working.
    Given the following two options, which do you think is more likely?

    1) Deselecting the 'Enable TCP Window scaling' and 'Use strict TCP session handling' options.
    2) Noticing that the flylead I'm using (which was the one used to connect the ASG pc but had been unplugged to bypass it) has a broken clip and may have simply fallen out of the machine on the same night the throttle came into effect? This implies I didn't notice the adapter state on the dashboard. [:$]

    I haven't turned the two TCP options back on, the network has to be functioning for my wife's use tomorrow.

    I'd be more likely to believe that #2 fixed your issue than #1, which was more of a shot in the dark, so it'd be interesting to see if it continues working after turning TCP window scaling back on.

    Strict TCP session handling should definitely have nothing to do with it.

    Occam's Razor applies in this case I think - but will put back the TCP options tonight to confirm.
