How many computers do you have on your home network ?

Due to the number of machines I have, had to set them up at 2 locations per my better half:

My house
1 Sun Ultra 10 (Solaris 8)
1 Sun Sparcstation 4 (Linux)
1 Sun Ultra 1 (Solaris 8)
1 HP C360 (HPUX 11i)
1 HP C110 (Playing with the hppa Debian port)
1 AMD 1700+ XP (Redhat 7.3)
1 AMD 1.2 GHZ (Astaro 3.2)
2 HP Vectra VA P-Pro 200s (Various flavors of BSD and Linux depending on my mood :-) )
1 Dell C840 Laptop (Redhat 7.3 (Host) + FreeBSD and winXP in VMWare VMs)

My buddies:
1 HP Vectra VA P-Pro 200 (Astaro and it works great!)
1 Sun Ultra 1 (Solaris 8)
1 AMD 1.4 (WinXP gaming box)
1 AMD 1.2 (Mandrake 8.2)
1 AMD 2100+ XP (Redhat 7.3 and FreeBSD 4.7)
and all of their boxes...close to the 10 Machine limit :-(

Hi all, I'm new to the ASL scene and I'm working on a growing family of 4 young childen and one on the way so it looks like I'm going to eventually have a larger network here.    I used to be a computer professional but found more money in Industrial Maintenance but I'm trying to keep up with it.   

Right now I have:

My Athlon 1800+ box (Win 2000)
Spouse's K6-3 400Mhz (Win 98SE)
Kid's K6-2 400 Mhz (being rebuilt)
Router K6-2 500 Mhz (ASL)
Print Server K6-2 300 Mhz (being built)

I'm on a 1 way cable modem until RCN updates this area with 2 way. I will say I'm glad that ASL can handle the IP changes that happen with the cable modem as it dynamically connects.

Red Man, what do you think of your 3Com 3300 Switch? I have the possibility of getting 1 or 2 24 port ones cheap here since right now I am using an off-brand 8 port Link-Max. I use 3Com cards for the inside network and was wondering if i could get any benefit out of one. Or is there others (Cisco?) I should be out gunning for?

I might set up a workgroup or domain server on the printer server if ASL takes a while with that. 

I've got an old victorian style house with a front parlor I've turned into a computer room so it keeps the front of the house warm.  [:)]

I really enjoy the 3300 switches. I now have the 3900 series here as well, an some more Cisco. The Cisco 2924XL-EN is my favorite Cisco switch for home/SOHO use.

I'll also vouch for the superstack II 3300.. they're really nice.

This does not even count the machines I have floating through waiting for repair or deployment to a customer.   

Yes, the heating and cooling bill does reflect running all these machines.

Wow I see this is a power users tool. I started with Smoothwall, moved to IpCop and now Astaro. I am setting it up for the biz I work for to evaluate for the network. At home I have the following:

* An older machine running PowerHome X-10 control software for some basic home automation
* Another older machine being used as a file/print server
* My Astaro FW box (dual-CPU Pentium Pro 200 with 384MB memory) connected to my cable modem.  Yeah, it's an older box, but for my home network, it does the job nicely.
* Another older box I use as my Ghost image server
* A couple other older boxes that I don't have room to hook up at the moment.  I'm hiding them from my wife because she'll want me to get rid of them.
