How many computers do you have on your home network ?

How many computers do you have on your home network ?

This includes general-purpose computers not being older than 3 years (not counting the C64 in the closet).

Honest answers only  [:)]

    What do you mean, not older than 3 years!!!

    I have a 486/25 running Debian Linux that is my SSH tunnel server.  It does a nice job, thank you.  It could also run my DNS if I were so inclined.

    I do plan on decommisioning this box if I can ever get my firewall to handle SSH tunnel endpoints.

    ok, lets make it "not older that 10 years and regularly used".

    I just didn't want people to count in their various non-used vintage PC parts.

    I, like most geeks, have a sorta revolving door of older equipment rotating through my house. My flatmates think both me and my brother are nuts and the first thing most visitors comment on when they arrive in the house is the constant background hum of computer equipment.

    hehe.. I know the "hum". I have a rack full of network equipment sitting my basement. One of my friends who is an IT Manager at a local trucking company remarked that I have better equipment sitting in my basement then he has in his 400 user office!   [;)]  

    The hum though is quite comforting

    I have most of my gear in enclosed racks, otherwise the noise would be too much.

    I am right now pricing used VLAN swithces with 24 ports to simplfy my network management here...

    hehe I have five of those.. Cisco and 3Com. I have the capability for over 120 ports in my house if I really wanted em.. plus I have another Cisco Catalyst 2924-XL-EN sitting in my car doing nothing at the moment.

    Yes I love to hear the hum of my SPARCs that are older than 3 years by far.  However they are my email, web, DNS, syslog, and ntp servers.

    I get the same type comments about the hum when anyone comes into my house...lol...Running at my house is the following....
    4 Basic W2k workstations
    2 dell/1 IBM old notebooks  (for surfing from bed and also to play MP3's out on my home theather system.
    1 W2k server
    1 Astaro Firewall
    3 Compaq I-Paq flat panel surf stations
    Working on building a web and mail server
    Plus usually 1 or 2 friends systems who bring them over to be fixed..lol

    Dont you ever wonder how you accumulate some much of this stuff?..lol

    Sounds like we are all NUTS!!! I personally have 2 laptops and 5 regular systems 3 of which are active servers running Debian linux my slowest machine is a p1 233.  I also have 1 router and 1 switch not to mention the machine that I call my firewall.... I think that this is a good question because most of my friends that are geeks as well have as many or more than I do.  They all use some form of linux and firewall hybrid. It is people like this that will supply you with the most knowlege of systems for development.  The people I am reffering to all work in the IT field and these are thier home networks, these have become pet projects and a testing bed for things that they may try and deploy where they work...  The best advertising for astaro would come from IT people using it at home and recomending it for the office.

    And the best,

    1 - IBM RS/6000 UNIX server running AIX with External SCSI CD-ROM 8 Port tower

    None of this includes the misc parts and systems I have laying around (486's, low end pentium's).
