New Licensing

I don't have a problem with most of the licensing issues (reg for free use etc) What I do want to know is how flexible the following are:

ASL Office Edition:
3 Network Interfaces
10 IPSec Tunnels
2 SMTP Proxy Domains

ASL Professional Edition:
7 Network Interfaces
200 IPSec Tunnels
25 SMTP Proxy Domains

ASL Enterprise Edition:
20 Network Interfaces
1000 IPSec Tunnels
unl. SMTP Proxy Domains
Gigabit NIC support

This is too limiting, how about if I want:

Customer Edition:
4 Network Interfaces (2 Ext, 1 Int, 1 DMZ)
0 IPSec Tunnels
10 PPTP Tunnels
10 SMTP Proxy Domains
0 Gigabit NIC support.

Basically I with the new packages I would be paying for something I don't need. I think you have taken a step backwards from what was a very flexible (if somewhat expensive model) to something that is too inflexible (unless working with sales we can come to an agreement).

    Did you get your Cisco PIX 550 with a valid license for free? Or free for testing purpose?

    Probably not, but you seem to forget that Pix is a well-known brandname, whereas Astaro is not. See the difference?

    Astaro is in need of positioning themselves, while Pix probably sells itself.

    Did I not just say that the pix was associated with my business? Anyone with average intelligence should be able to deduct, from my latter post, that I am not using it for testing purposes and since I made it clear that I don’t condone violating license agreements I would assume you would know I purchased it. I have had cisco equipment in my lab before, and cisco was happy to give me a lab license which clearly outlines what is and isn’t illegal.

     What orjan said is one of the points. Cisco does not have to sell the pix, its one of their products that is sought by their customers without marketing influence. 

    Cisco also pays millions every mo. For in house testing environments, testers etc.. whereas Astaro had it for free it was a “ill  scratch your back if you scratch mine” deal.
    The above is one of the reasons we cared so much about the product and took the time to test all the beta’s etc.. we wanted to have good, secure code in the end product which we expected to run for free at home without limitations.

    They already said that we are SOL with any changes to the standard prices, as much as we would like to see it different.

    However they are open to negotiation on all fronts if you have a genuine issue you want to explore with their sales team or management all you need to do is call or email them.

    Do I think they are making a terrible mistake? Yes.

    Do I think they will take any notice? *shrug*

    I still rate the product highly.

    Just a last comment, since ASTARO doesn't seem to take any interest in the fact that all of us will cease to test/use/sell/recomend the product.
    I guess they are telling us that they are selling enough licenses as it is.
    And that our betatesting and security proofing isn't worth anything.

    So, if you provide us with free licence the way it used to be. We'll provide you with HIGH pri. bugs in 3.200 security (and yes there are some).

    Is there room for any compromise here.

    Such as..

     If you were a previous beta/tester and actually contributed to Astaro you could become a registered "tester/hacker" and receive the larger licenses free. 

      Maybe some future requirements like feedback required within 12 month period to maintain tester status etc.

      There's got to be someway for the 1% to continue to "test" and satisfy Astaro's model.

      It seems if the 1% and Astaro would offer some  ways to accomplish this without disturbing the current model that it could bring about a win-win deal.

    I'm sure there are, and a few ideas have been expressed here already.

    However, Astaro have seen fit not to engage in any discussion on this topic. Their only comment on any issue regarding 3.2 has been the post near the bottom of the first page of this thread.

    Maybe we should start a petition, and give them something else to ignore...

    Thanks for providing some insight Tom.

    The new product is great, but it really is becomming a pain having restrictions =) 

    My home network consists of more technology than most small businesses =) And I like to be able to utilize it all.

    yes i mean to is no good what asl do for that i want to say go and mak a free full firewall based openbsd and fuck over all big brother want tpo fuck GPL
    astaro is based GPL issue linux based.
    i have read asl is violtaion in 15 term of GPL software.

    i want to say this guys make an board and go to work the best free firewall based in openbsd for free fot all.
    i can host forum and have friend can contribute in it .


    GPL for life.
    for change of licencing i don't buy the 15 licene product for my town fuck all shity guys.
