[9.000] Resource usage increase

it is an intel DBS1200KPR, will run E3 exon or i3 cpu. Comes with dual intel nic onboard one x16 expansion slot.
I have installed 4gb and Sata III 256gb ssd connects at 6gb/s. The SSD is an overkill, it wouldn't work in the MAC upgrade I was doing.
Typical intel power management the CPU runs at 100c in BIOS. The fan is not going that fast, but you can fell the heat radiating from the box. I currently have it in a mini itx case which is open.
Nextstep is to install v9 GA.

@BarryG - hyperthreading on a home box uses extra memory for more IPS processes without much benefit I believe. I expect to use the 50/10Mb/s NBN option for a while then down grade to the 25/5mb/s.

I have the exactly same hardware except the SSD (60GB). The performance is excellent. The mainboard is expensive, but works very well.

100C is far too hot! Intel rates Sandy Bridge i3's max temperature (TCase) at 69C. Ivy Bridge might be slightly higher.

You can manually control the # of IPS processes, e.g.
cc set ips num_instances 2

Hyperthreading may still help as there are MANY processes/threads running for the http content filter & cache, anti-virus, application classifier, ...
Astaro staff seem to recommend keeping HT on.

actually you do NOT want to allow ips to calculate based on HT.  HT isn't a full threaded execution unit.  Only allow ips to calculate on physical cores.  if you have a dual core HT i would set it max to 1.  quads to two..etc etc etc.

O_o sounds great. any idea on the power it takes to run it? im trying to find that sweet spot better performance and energy efficiency.

thank you for your help and interest.
The new motherboard being a server allows a leaner display, so more memory to the system. The boot sequence is extremely fast.

@Corey, the box is still loading up the latest of all the databases and tuning the configuration, I do use the local proxy database in memory. minimum power 27w, running around 35w, but very quickly peaks to 50-60w and drops back.
Also I am running 2 ADSL2+ links.

@BarryG, I used your suggested setting for the IPS, the return was 1. Memory use immediately dropped by approx 700k. 
The CPU temperature rises to 100c in bios. I am investigating a larger heatsink. I will add my findings to the Unofficial HCL thread.

Overall there appears to be a huge performance improvement in response to webadmin and internet queries. Also the ADSL connections are way quicker.

Which case are you using? Stock Intel heatsink+fan?

I saw your HCL post... that CPU is rated at 69C max; hopefully the BIOS is wrong, but try lm_sensors too.

Hi Barry,
I just upgraded it to the latest bios, the CPU temperature reading in BIOS only sits around 100c, no warnings nothing shuts down. I have even dropped the alarm level from the default 100 to 90c. The CPU fan did go alot faster this time.

CPU is a i3-2100, run 65w tdp. The total box doesn't draw that amount while in BIOS, but it does go to around 50w.

I will try your sensor suggestion.
