UTM 9 Released

Hi everyone.

What a fun beta, so much feedback and we've come a long way from that first release haven't we? UTM 9 is now considered "GA", and we will move on to getting some up2dates out the door and begin work on 9.1. Stay tuned for some news on that.

Just wanted to say thanks very much. I really appreciate all the feedback and we definitely have a better product due to your participation. We'll wrap things up here in the coming days with some announcements and some close-out stuff before archiving these forums.

Upgrade from 8 to 9 is more like an upgrade from 8.2 to 8.3, because we don't have to re-partition the hard drive, which overall makes it much easier.

This also means updating customers stick to the EXT3 filesystem while a fresh v9 install uses EXT4. You may convert manually, though. Just google for a howto.

Better performance... but "probably" not enough for the average UTM user to notice, though it might help HTTP Proxy Cache performance, for example.

Ext4 does support bigger volumes, etc. but that doesn't come into play with the UTM product.

EXT4 also allows for complete TRIM support used by SSDs.

Yes. Read this:

unless you are running an ssd OR have a very heavily used machine doing tons of logging ext4 isn't going to do much for a firewall installation..unless your power is very unstable..then there ae other improvements,..[:)]
