yes sorry, I did try that too but it came up with a similar message as the avira command in that it mentioned "not found"

disabling HTTP/S proxy and IPS enabled = problem

disabling IPS and enabled Proxy but no AV = problem

The logs that I checked so far are pretty much similar to what others have posted already.

Just a little update... reinstalled Astaro from 7.920 ISO and restored settings from backup and same problem?!

Been doing some more experimenting... IPS disabled, HTTP/S enabled using "standard" mode and AV enabled works. (was using transparent)

this may sound like a dumb question but when you switch to "standard" mode in the HTTP/S proxy, each of the client's browsers require configuration right...? they shouldn't work without??

correct. In standard mode you have to configure the proxy in your browser.

However ma10wong, by "work" they can still surf if you have given them appropriate packet filter permissions to pass out on port 80 & 443. Since by doing so even without going through the proxy they will be allowed to surf purely unfiltered without restriction.

I'm pretty sure i've not set packet filter rules to pass traffic via ports 80 & 443... yet in standard mode, all my client computers can surf without configuring the proxy settings in the browser now?
