SFOS uses the development build of React

Since we use React for some of our own software, I have the React developer tools installed in Chrome. Therefore, I noticed that SFOS is using the development build of React (see below).

Is there any particular reason it is not using the production build? I know that it can make a significant difference in performance.

  • I totally agree, it’s not an issue of “more important bugs to fix”. It’s not an issue if other companies being equally sloppy. The React build is a trivial thing to fix. Once would be bad enough, but it’s been this way in 2/3 releases? When it could be fixed by a junior dev in literally 5 mins. It shows sloppiness and a disregard for good practice. Which is not something a security company should be going for. I wonder how sloppy the backend code is... It’s also worth mentioning it’s not a version issue. It’s a configuration issue. React has 2 modes.
  • This is a cosmetic issue with zero impact on security, and firewall performance. To interpret it a sign of something serious, is a tremendous stretch. The actual change may be small, but the follow-up testing to ensure there are no regressions, is not. Switching the mode used, is on the backlog, but given that the improvements from this are entirely cosmetic, and invisible to almost every user, it is being handled with appropriate priority.

NC-25970 [Framework(UI)] Change React.js to production mode in SFOS release builds

  • Hi AlanT

in XG 17.05MR5 React changed to Production Build (five month ago).

Sophos Firewall Manager still uses the Dev Build even in SFMOS 17.0.0GA.

are there plans to switch to production build too?

    Yours Lukas
