Hello,
is it possible the XG Firewall Home Edition run on a SG Hardware Appliance?
Thanks

CarlBagge,
I've never tried on anything smaller than a 105. Here is what I do:
1. Boot to gParted Live USB.
2. Delete existing partitions and create new ext3/4 partition.
3. Apply disk configuration.
4. Boot to Sophos SFOS software installer and install.
I don't have an 85 to test with so unfortunately can't walk through it.
Thanks for your quick reply.
As far as deleting existing partitions this is as far as I've come with gParted:
The xg85 seems to have a flash memory for the system divided into mmcblk0, mmcblk0boot0, mmcblk0boot1 and mmcblk0rpmb. Normally i'd say boot0, boot1 and rpmb are partitions on mmcblk0. But I cannot edit/remove them, as you can see in the screenshot above. I can wipe/partition /dev/mmcblk0 but doing that still results in "Detected Sophos Physical Device".
Just purchased a UTM 220 and was successfully, and easily, able to install SW-SFOS_17.0.3_MR-3-131.iso on it using my home license. No issue what so ever. Only thing that does not work is the lcd and I am not sure that I really even care. The unit will have the ports in the back of my rack and I will not be able to see the lcd anyway.
I have a quad core lga775 cpu here that I may try to swap in but I need to get some more thermal paste before attempting.
How did you get this to work? I'm having a ton of trouble booting the XG install on my UTM 320.
I've tried Rufus in DD mode but the installer doesn't boot (just a flashing cursor)...I can only get it to boot when I modify the kernel parameters with noapic, but to do that I have to extract the ISO and I have no idea how to reimage as a hybrid iso, so I can't image in DD mode...
So basically, When I image in DD mode, the installer doesn't boot (only works with noapic argument)...
but when I use the noapic argument, the install fails because it can't find the iso (since its not imaged in DD mode)...
I think my UTM 320 is rev 5....was there something you did differently than what I did below?
- tried Rufus in DD mode
- tried Tuxboot
- tried Win32diskimager
- I have successfully booted the installer by breaking out to the syslinux "boot" prompt and typing: "linux noapic"...but I can only get to the prompt on the usb stick I have imaged in normal mode, thus the disk doesn't work and the install fails.
