It's time to say Good-bye! Arrivederci...

Every story comes with an end...

It was October 2011, when I joined the Astaro Community and I was a newbie on Astaro UTM 8. I learned a lot from several gurus like  and many others. I owe them!

Then I enjoyed the XG Project since the beginning. It was promising because Sophos acquired another UTM company so they could build an even better product. I do not want to spent to much words about the XG project as you will find all mine critics inside several threads and I felt to be never never never understood by Sophos.

make sure to create more KB and to give the proper answers to this Community

I hope to meet you one day! If you come to Italy, let me know! We have a mutual friend who knows you very well and He said that you are a really great guy. An humble person!

I hope that the XG project will succeed soon. At the moment XG runs on a sand castle!

I move to InfoSec world since many years and for me the time to figth with CLI, script and any sort of configuration ended. I followed the XG project and I shared some of my knowledge with all, but in reality I am a Security Architect and I am moving to next level (do not forget that I am a Terminator).

Give something back says the good Arnold! We use Internet everyday and since 2011 I felt to be in debt with the Internet People so I said:"I would like to give my contribution to Internet Users on some of my knowledge"

You can find me on Linkedin who would like to keep me in touch!

I had a great time with you all. So keep going and do what you like, what you love...Follow your passion, always!

Grazie

  • Farewell my friend and thank you for your assistance and support.

  • Ciao Luk!

On the one hand I'm sorry because you gave me many ideas "architect" when you helped us here in the Forum, on the other hand you a good luck for your "upgrade". Sometimes, come back to visit us in the forum!

    Grazie a te!

  • Farewell and thank you for all the help.  This forum will suffer mightily w/o your presence since Sophos scantly ever cares about it.

I still use Sophos at home since it's free but I advised my agency to go with PaloAlto solution since at least their support cares and the solution is not an evolution of beta testing.

  • Luk,

These forums will not be the same without your presence.  You were always willing to help and your knowledge was invaluable given the many issues with the XG.  I think it speaks volumes that you have lost faith in the XG platform as your other posts have indicated.  I have unfortunately been trying to support a client with XG since v15 and I remember even in those trying early times you were always a firm supporter of the XG and tried to do everything you could to help people make it work.  You will be sorely missed, but I am sure I am not alone in wishing you the best in your future.

All the best, i always found you one of the most helpful people on the forums and always willing to help.

I hope this can be an example to Sophos to allocate someone to the forums.

    Thanks and all the best.

  • Luk, I have always admired you and  on the way you guys donate your time to the community. Specially when you are doing it for free without any strings attached. I was introduced to astaro long time ago and have been a member here for almost 12 years. Astaro while not perfect had management and devs that cared about the product and I felt that the product was continuously evolving into something better. I had my doubts when sophos acquired astaro but v9 was still a step forward in UTM/SG series. However since sophos acquired cyberoam, SG/UTM is only there to bring in money and the old astaro UTM is dead. XG on the other hand is a continuous beta that over promises and can't deliver. Every release, new promises are made for the future that are then scaled back at the time of next release. Frankly, I am tired of it and over it.

Due to this and other reasons, I had already decided to stop contributing and visiting these forums. I enjoyed beta testing but lately there is not much to beta test and frankly the beta testing process is a mess with no acknowledgement of bugs or the approximate dates for bug fixes.

I got and email that you were leaving since you mentioned me by name and I was honored that you held me in such a high regard. Even with all your knowledge you were always a humble person and I admire that. It would be a huge loss for the community and sophos to see you go. You never quit till you solved everyone's problem just like the terminator.

Good luck to you my friend, I am sure you will be greatly missed by everyone.

    Regards and Farewell

    Bill

  • Thanks for your great help & great effort helping the entire XG community members better than any other even than the builders themselves and support team.

I learned a lot from your answers as you always give an overview description about the issue being discussed and even give the best practices and hints related to this issue.

I truly admire and respect a professional and helpful person like yourself who is keen for sharing his knowledge and experience to help others in solving problems and gives a helpful tips to all viewers with whatever their IT background or knowledge base.

  • Maybe it’s time for Sophos to come off the horse and take a look at what’s happening around some products and especially their support. Sayonara Luciano!
  • Luk,

The Sophos family will miss your comments and help.

All the best for the future.

I really hope Sophos read these forums and takes action on the leakage and support others offer. I know they want XG to succeed and be awesome but they sure seem to go about it the long  / wrong way.
