Checksum Error on Internet Explorer

Running Windows 8 and every time a browser updates itself I have to manually update the checksums.  This time I rebooted and I suppose Internet Explorer had updated and now the firewall says the checksum does not agree.  But even when I go into the checksum list and replace the app, the checksum does not work.  I still get the checksum error.  I have verified that I am updating the checksum from the app I am running.  I can't figure out what is going on that the checksum when running is not the same as the checksum Sophos gets when it is simply on the hard disk.

Any idea how to troubleshoot this problem?  It is getting so that I don't want to reboot my machine anymore because every time I do Sophos firewall has a problem granting access to valid apps.

  • This was working.   But today I did another update and IE is blocked with a bad checksum again.  I went through all the steps and I can't get the current version of IE into the checksum list.

Sophos shows iexplore.exe 10.00.9200.16384.  The version of the files that are running is 10.0.9200.17183.  Both sophos and the running files have the same paths.  I say paths because there are two... actually three IE processes running, one copy of C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and two copies of C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe.  I have removed these files from Sophos checksum and added them back only to still have the old version number showing.

I'm very confused and frustrated.  Sophos used to be a very good product, but with Windows 8 it is becoming far too much work to deal with what should be simple problems.

  • I'm having a similar problem with Libre Office.  The version number that shows up in the checksum dialog is the same as shows up in properties when I check the file.  But Sophos is blocking Libre Office from updating because of an invalid checksum.

How do I get help with this problem?
