False positive mal/HTMLgen-a

Hi im new to Sophia and I wanted to see if the site Checkwebsitesafe.com was a safe site. When checked virus total, it said tha Sophos said it was malicious. I checked other safe URL checking sites and most said it was fine. Only Anubis malware said it was bad. This is the link to the scan report-http://anubis.iseclab.org/?action=result&task_id=15d6e5628029555a4898bdb3d425733ee&format=html and I had a discussion on the clamxav forums which has more info-http://www.markallan.co.uk/BB/viewtopic.php?t=2916&sid=0cc1a50ada0196e8889b07191719ae88 thanks if someone can help me out with this

  • Hi,

Do you get it with a different web browser?

You don't mention what browser you use, Chrome, FireFox, IE?  Whichever you use and get it on, can you try a different browser?

I would also try disabling all plugins in the browser where you get the problem, to see if that helps:

    Chrome:

    Navigate to:

    chrome://plugins/

    Firefox:

    Firefox - Add-ons

    IE

    Settings - Manage Add-ons

    Regards,

    Jak

  • Also if someone is able to, could they explain the report from Anubis? All I know is that it's something about iexplore.exe.Note: it is missing a r because the browser Internet explorer is iexplorer.exe and not iexplore.exe

  • Hello sandy, i am sorry to have not been able to say this, but I found my answer myself. I emailed a worker from Anubis and I also scanned other sites. These sites all came up with the same three warnings as well as iexplore.exe I gues that was just to show their browser even though It was missing an r I believe. I am able to assume that I don't ave any malware unless someone else has an idea. Thanks for the help. (I am still looking for an answer about my laptop and the incident)

  • Pending checks on the contents of this post, we've moved it. I'm happy to reserve judgement on whether there really is  a Mal/HTMLGen-A infection in the content quoted, but as SophosTalk community manager, I can't put the community at risk.

  • Hi,

This issue has been technically resolved, and I've put Rogerborg's original post back into the EndUser Protection board. For reasons explained in that thread, the post has moved to:
