Scripted Uninstall of Sophos

Looking for a scripted uninstall of Sophos. We have over 2000 endpoints at 420+ remote locations which are mainly POS systems running XP or Windows 7. We can't take control of these systems to manually uninstall Sophos if problems arise (and they have). I've talked to Sophos support about this and they don't have an uninstall script for Sophos 10.0 from what I've been told.

I've found all the MSIEXEC uninstall strings within the registry but running those remotely via PsExec does not work, not sure why.

I find it interesting that as good as Sophos is of uninstalling ever other major AV/EPP product on the market to install their product on an end-point, they offer no means (other than touch each endpoint manually) to uninstall their own product.

If anyone has any information that would help us, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I'm surprised that running the MSI uninstall strings don't work. Could it be that Tamper Protection is enabled on the machines and that is preventing the uninstall?

If Tamper Protection is disabled and you create a batch file with the uninstall commands in and try to run that using psexec does that work, having tested that the batch file works when run locally?

I'm stopping all services prior to running the MSIEXEC strings, which disables Tamper Protection.

I assume running the same command locally the uninstall works?

Can you add the commands to a script such as a batch file and run that, does that help when run remotely using psexec?

If when you run the MSI command to uninstall you add the logging switch, what does the MSI log say for the uninstall when it fails?

Having spoken to Sophos support recently and had some significant problems getting Sophos to completely uninstall to allow a fresh installation to occur I have found out that the previous remsav-all.bat file is no longer recommended. Apparently, if removal via Add/Remove programs doesn't work then Sophos development want to know about it because, I am told, this should work in all cases.

Ive got a script which uninstalls all versions (needs you to be an admin and can be run through psexec). if anyone wants it PM me.

Hi Derp,
Do you a script to check whether if Sophos is installed in a PC. If there is no Sophos installed, the PC will automatically trigger Sophos client installation?

I would like a copy of the script as well. I don't have time for sophos's technical support to assist with every one of these cases and I seem to have a lot of them.
