SEC will not connect to Management server

I have a second SEC installed on my workstation. A couple of days ago it stopped connecting to the Sophos server.

SEC tries to connect and seems to freeze while trying to connect to the server. I have tried Installing SEC on a differrent PC but still get the same issue.

I can ping the Sophos server and RDP to it and can run SEC on the server its self.

The SEC config file is identical to the one for SEC on the server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 7 with SEC version 5.2.1

  • Hi,

I would also check on the remote console computers that the locations under:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\[Wow6432Node]\Sophos\EE\Management Tools\ServerLocation

and the URLs in this file (near bottom):

    C:\Program Files[ (x86)]\Sophos\Enterprise Console\EnterpriseConsole.exe.config

Can be resolved by the client to be the management server.

    Regards,

    Jak

  • The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\[Wow6432Node]\Sophos\EE\Management Tools\ServerLocation  address resolves ok.

All but one of the http addresses in the config file fail when I put them into a webbrowser, but have the correct address for the management server at the begining.

The one ending Sophos/Management/EncryptionFrontEnd brings up a webpage named EncryptionFEService Service.

  • Hello Abraham,

All but one of the http addresses in the config file fail

    this is the expected behaviour.

    ServerLocation  address resolves ok

Although I didn't think that this is the issue I was about to make the same suggestion but Jak beat me to it :smileyhappy:. I still suppose the connection is blocked on or near the server. I'd suggest using Wireshark (capture option host nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn) - the whole exchange until the connection should be set up is less than 30 packets (unless there are retransmissions but still it should be a manageable number - best to make sure that there is no other traffic to/from the server so perhaps stop AutoUpdate and RMS during the capture).

  • SEC is now connecting it looks like the Sophos management service had frozen but was showing as running. I restarted the Management server and we can now connect.

It maybe a combination of the service freezing and changing the firewall to allow connections to RPC Dynamic Ports or to MgntSvc.exe.

    Thanks for all your help
