SGN Product Enhancement Suggestions

Might be a good idea to star this list early so it's in early. My wishlist

- Better AD synchronization (automated, configurable schedule, and built into MC)

- "Policy for a slider" - meaning give user the option via policy to control how fast they want to encrypt the HD. Of course if this policy is disable user cannot control that (aka today's status). Giving the users a little power will simplify the deployment of such invasive product

- Better policy stamping on the client. Today you can see "Last Received" but that's misleading as policy might not have been changed for long before that. I would rather see a hashmark or some kind of name where I could match the server policy name with the client (the date should be in the name)

  • Hello,

We are current customers, running SGN 5.35.35. I see support for Windows 7, 32-bit, is available with version 5.40. I'm wondering what the path is for 64-bit OS support. I see on PGP's site that they currently support 64-bit. We are concerned about newly purchased notebooks coming with 64-bit Windows 7 and not being able to install SGN.

    Thanks,

    Matt

We are currently finishing the 64bit version of SafeGuard Device Encryption 5.50. It is scheduled for Q2/2010.

  • Hello,

a SGN wishlist, very nice :-) we using SGN since 2007.

    My Whishlist:

    - POA with Network access

    - Better integration of the SGN Moduls for example DX & CP Filecontrol doesn't work together with SGN 5.40

    - For CP a Whitelist merging like the whitelist in SGPP

    - Temporary deactivation of CP in offline modus

    - add devices from the reports directly to the withlist

    - volumen based Data Exchange modul, like a SG Private Disk implementation

    - force drive mapping

    - a mechamisn to control the reaction of unencrypted volumens, for example a withlist // exclusion list for the dx modul

    - it would be great to redesign the withlist concept for example a device pool in which you can active defined devices for a user or a user group

If you have questions to one or some point don't hesitate to contact me.

    thx

    daniel

When I see a wishlist like this it gives me the jimmies to write my own. :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks, that's what I was hoping for.

Will 5.50 also support Server 2008 R2 (also 64-bit)? If not, are there other options for encrypting Server 2008?

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

SGN 5.50 will support Windows Server 2008 R2 in 64-bit mode but for management and server components only.

  • hello all :)

We've been using SG for a few years now, we noticed on laptops that the disk performance is quite limited after installing the SG Client and the HDD has been encrypted. With Antivirus running in the background it's safe to say the I/O of the HDD is kept busy.

We did a few tests to see how we could boost performance of the system; I configured two laptops, one with a HDD , one with an SSD; both running XP. When both systems are unencrypted the performance of the SSD powered laptop is about 3x-5x higher compared to the HDD one.

So that's good news, but as soon both laptops are encrypted the performance advantage is completely lost; when the HDD/SSD is encrypted the bottleneck becomes the encryption software.

Have you guys tested SSDs yet, are their plans to optimise the SG encryption software to profit from the extra performance available with SSDs ?

We are currently working on the SSD topic.

  • I probably have an odd situation compared to most, but here goes my list:

    - Ability to set policies at the computer level instead of at the OU level

    - Being able to create OU's under Workgroups and move computers into those OU's in the Management Center

    - Less reboots/relogins (for user sync, keys, certs, etc)

    - Removable media encryption whitelist (devices on the list are not encrypted, encrypt everything else)

    - Support for Self Encrypting Drives

    - Free port auditing program for users out in the field (that doesn't expire after a 30 day trial)

    - Community supported (and Sophos validated) hardware compatibility list

I could probably come up with a giant list of small issues, but for big ones that is what I would like to see.

  • any news regarding SSD support? We're rolling out SSDs more and more in our machines... the performance benefits are very visible on machines without encryption, but once Safeguard is installed (now on version 5.5) the performance is less than stellar. (same level as HDD)
